Decent, but not sharp out of the box
It's a solid knife, but not very sharp out of the box. I bought one for my friend the day before we took a wilderness survival course, and he struggled with it all weekend (I tested it myself just to confirm it was the knife and not his technique).Plan on sharpening it yourself before relying on it in an emergency.

Blade broke on first use
perhaps a got a defective model....but the blade cracked while trying to baton a 1" piece of kindling. I have several folders which have held up very well. Not the SRK. It was a difficult weekend without a knife.

Seems nice...
My Dad just got me this for my birthday. I'm not very familiar with SK steel so that's why I gave 4 stars. Seems to be pretty durable. As far as batoning wood...you have to know how to do it, otherwise any knife can break. The blade thickness shows you that it's not a combat knife but can be a hunting knife in a limited way. Overall I really like it but I'm just not sure how the SK steel will hold up over time...we'll see.

Not bad.
Decent little knife. Handles what it needs to if you're not a dummy like the guy who broke it batoning. Use it for what it's made for and you'll be just fine. Use is like a kukri, axe, hatchet, or much thicker knife and you're just showing how dumb you are.
