Stephen Key’s bestselling book "One Simple Idea” is definitely my favorite “how to” book for anyone wanting to understand and master product licensing. I have read several books on the subject of inventing and making money from your ideas and this book is by far the best one. There are several reasons why "One Simple Idea" is at the top of my list but perhaps the most important to me is that it is actionable, meaning that it simply and concisely outlines a process that produces results. I know because I recently signed my first licensing deal and well on my way to the next deal. Stephen Key’s 10 step process, once learned, is easier each time it is executed because repetition promotes expertise.Like most people, I didn’t know where to start when it comes to product licensing so I really appreciate Stephen’s book because it lays out an understandable approach to licensing principles that anyone can do if they are willing to put in the work. Probably the best thing that I like about this book is that it's fun to read yet inspiring at the same time. I like this book so much I’ve bought several for friends so they can benefit as much as I have.Thank you so much Stephen!

I enjoyed the framework used to mix and match concepts to develop products. What was even better was the step-by-step guide to selling your idea instead of trying to break the bank developing it yourself.

I run my own writing business but, due to changes in the publishing industry (and desire to find a business model that doesn't involve trading my time for money) I stumbled across this book. As others have said, it was a little repetitive, but I found it very clear, helpful and encouraging.I read the book all the way through, created a step-by-step guide for myself based on the material in the book, and am working on my first two products. I'll come back with an update once I'm further along in the process, because I'd have loved to have heard from other reviewers if they've put the information into practice and how that went. I'm scared, skeptical, hopeful and excited. Once I've actually done all the steps outlined in the book, for multiple products, I'll be able to give more helpful and detailed info to others considering buying the book.It seems that the author is one of the few people out there really explaining licensing to newbies. Before I heard of him, I didn't even realize this was a thing. I'm the type of person who constantly has ideas, and I thought they were worthless. I would be walking along with my husband or driving along with him, and I'd say, "You know what product should exist?" I was annoyed at my brain for being the type to come up with ideas but not wanting to build businesses to make them happen. It's not that I don't want to put in work, it's just that I'd rather come up with and develop a bunch of ideas than commit to one idea and take on building a business, finding investors, locating a manufacturer, etc. etc. Stephen Key is the first person I've encountered who has articulated that there are others out there like this, and it's not a bad thing.Anyway, I'm at the sales sheet and prototype creation step for my two ideas, and I'm hoping this turns out to be a viable way to make a living, as Mr. Key states in his book. I'm having so much fun, but the question is whether it will pay off.Oh, one small criticism of this book is that, while there is a lot of repetition, there are major things that aren't included, such as details on how to create and NDA and what it should include, just for one example. Overall, great book.

I am a serial entrepreneur and businessman with four high tech startups and two licensing deals to my name over the last 35 years. I just finished reading the book. I find it to be refreshing, enjoyable to read, factual and I agree with all of the recommendations made by the author. The book is written in plain English and should be on the required reading list of entrepreneurship classes/courses. Not every inventor should become be an entrepreneur. But Licensing is not easy, negotiating a win-win deal and enforcing the terms and conditions are tasks that many inventors are not comfortable with or interested to do. My only additional suggestion for the book therefore is to encourage inventors to seek mentors, team up and do not go it alone. Also, as the author mentions there is significant overlap in the initial planning steps of validating an invention before licensing an idea and starting your own venture. Use this book, as a check list and a refresher every time before launching a new product. Finally, you can as an inventor have your own start up and license products too in order to reach a wider range of consumers for various other applications of your invention.
