Lutheran Service Book

Beautiful hymnal. A great addition to your library if you're a confessional Lutheran and want a copy of the LSB at home.

I used to be a TLH-only gal, but my current church uses the LSB for divine service and select other services and it has grown on me. I wanted to get a copy to use at home for my daily morning and evening “devotional” time so I can easily sing through the hymns again from Sunday or use the psalms and other front matter. So far I am very pleased with the quality. It is lightweight and very attractive looking. The text is maybe a bit smaller than the church hymnals and not sure how well it will stay open if I don’t use both hands. But that shouldn’t be an issue with how I intend to use it.

Boughtnthis for my daughter who once in a while cannot make church. Her church is online and uses this hymnal. She says it is wonderful and is very thankful!

I love having my own hymnal for church. It is exactly the same as the ones in the church and is easy to use. The type is of good size but sometimes I need my glasses (just in some areas of the book but not for the service portions). It gives everything you need for daily workshop. I also have the Book of Concord, Lutheran Prayer Book, and Small Catechism which all work together to bring a clearer understanding of God's Word.

This lovely edition is available at a good price and is beautifully done. The only draw back, the type is much smaller. I would have preferred an option of a larger print size.

Without stealing the thunder from other reviews, for a confessional Lutheran pastor this is the best hymnal we have in the English language. It's been a true blessing for our congregation and for use in pastoral care.This particular edition - slightly smaller with flexible covers - is highly useful for family devotions (which is how it is primarily used). It's smaller and lighter than the hardcover pew version, and the only difference in content is that it doesn't have the collection of prayers from the inside front cover or the collection of creeds/Lord's Prayer from the inside back cover that you do find in the pew edition. It's been very durable so far, and I'm very happy with this version of our hymnal.

As a collector of hymnals and prayer books, I found the Lutheran Service Book to be a dignified book worthy for use in personal prayer as well as in church. The book is beautifully bound and includes ribbon markers. The psalms are included with the Glory Be at the end of each for use in praying Matins, Vespers, Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer. All five settings of the Divine Service are included. The hymn selections included are a wonderful mixture of Christian hymns, including some traditional Lutheran standbys, and even some more contemporary pieces. I am glad to have added the Lutheran Service Book to my personal library.
