Spider-Man: Back In Black

"Spider-Man: Back in Black" collects "Amazing Spider-Man" nos. 539-543, "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" nos. 17-23, and "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" annual no. 1, written by J. Michael Straczynski and Peter David with art by Ron Garney, Todd Nauck, Ronan Cliquet, and Colleen Doran. The story follows the events of Civil War, with Peter donning his black costume in the wake of an assassin hired by the Kingpin shooting Aunt May.The main story in Straczynski's portion portrays Peter as choosing the black costume to represent the darker path he takes in seeking revenge for Aunt May while struggling to keep her alive on life support. David's story in "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" appears to be a parallel narrative, occurring simultaneously with the main story. In David's writing, Peter teams up with Flint Marko, the Sandman, to save Marko's father who was wrongly convicted of killing a man. From there, he fights Ero, the "Other" that was created to balance out Spidey's second lease on life in Straczynski's "The Other" storyline. Finally, David's annual storyline focuses on Sandman's life from his own perspective.While Straczynski's story offers an interesting, darker take on the character following the Civil War crossover and the blows it dealt Peter, David's narrative appears designed to tie-into "Spider-Man 3", in theaters at the time. Spidey dons his black costume and part of the story focuses on the Sandman as a sympathetic villain. That said, these stories use the dramatic tension of Spidey's revealed identity and Aunt May's life hanging in the balance to tell innovative stories that advance the character and offered great promise for the future, if only Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada hadn't intervened.

This was a definite page turner. It took me 3 days to get through it all With all of the breaks I had to take.But it was not in anyway disappointing. The idea of Spider-man and Sandman working together that was really incredible thinking !Stan lee had the idea of superheroes having to deal with life problems, frailties and limitations that's what made Marvel so great!II can't wait for the next book in the series the whole series is fantastic good work all of you! Stan lee Would be very proud of all of you!

I was not happy with the condition it came in. It was more than minor wear. The outside cover definitely had more than minor damage. Corners were bent, the binding was torn on the bottom, and pages were stuck together. This was a gift for my son. I don’t usually leave bad reviews unless they are well warranted.

Great storyline where it shows Peter finally breaking after everything that had happene during and after civil war

Great story line and written well. Was surprised by the length and detail.

Collecting Amazing Spider-Man 539-543, Friendly Spider-Man 17-23 and Annual 1, this is the first book of two Back In Black hardcovers detailing Spider-Man's life after the Civil War events in the Marvel Universe, where his identity as Peter Parker had been publicly revealed.Focusing on the aftermath of an assassin's attempts on his family, the story has Spider-Man facing the darker aspects of his character. Well told and drawn as usual, it cuts off rather abruptly at the end of the ASM issues. Would have liked a little more conclusive end point.

Despite horrid reviews I've read, I was actually fairly impressed with this volume. The artwork on most of the comics compiled here was phenomenal and the stories themselves were interesting and explored the complexities of what it means to be both Peter Parker and Spiderman. True, there is not a unifying story tied together in the "Back in Black" crossovers, but they are enjoyable one-shots nonetheless. It also goes without saying that Stracynski's contributions are phenomenal. Even in the other works, though, there is still plenty of the witty web-slinger we all know and love. There were even a few jokes and meta moments that made me laugh out loud. That said, way too much time is spent on Sandman with little explanation as to why other than the fact that he appeared in the most recent movie (Spiderman 3) which was a flop.

Been reading comics, particularly Marvel for more than 25 years. Agree with dark chapter's review: the first half of this book was good and I would recommend it to anyone. However, the story goes way flat and fails when it switches from Amazing Spider-Man to Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Wish they just continued the first half with a full story rather than switch mid-stream. For that reason, I can only give it 3 stars.

Great product

I loved the main story. Sometimes for me Spider-man can be a bit girly, soft even with all the romance and troubling decisions he has to make, always taking the high ground and afraid to get dirty. Until now.Peter Parker is angry and it leaps out of the pages. It feels more grown up and even realistic because when he hits someone, with all his superhuman strength, instead of them falling over like usual, bones break and they scream out. A bit violent but this is that: dark, black. As a result the dilemas and charecters seem much deeper for it.I liked the J.J.Jameson story too.

Not the symbiote suit sadly... Part one of The Back in Black saga, shows just truly how strong spider-man can be, when you see a p#sed off spider-man, you'd better pray you don't get in his way...Because there's no force on earth that can save you from his wrath very gritty, very great

El producto cumple casi todos los requisitos. Viene en buen estado. El único problema que le veo es que creo que no viene completa la saga back in black y que te meten otros capítulos de relleno en vez de incorporar los pertinentes a toda la saga.No obstante lo he disfrutado.Saludos!
