Mag is back in the game
If you're an old Maglite fan that is wondering if Mag's still got it, you're probably in for a pleasant surprise. We all know Mag used to rule the roost. But somewhere in the 2010s, LED tech was perfected and Maglite fell way behind. I'm the owner of an older SureFire G2X and a Fenix E20. And yet I love my Mag XL50. Partly, I admit, I just love seeing that old Mag inscription around the bezel—the cat logo and "Ontario, CA, USA" (just 35 minutes from where I now live). Don't worry. It's not all nostalgia. Here's what else I love: - Form factor. The 3 AAA design gives this light a great barrel diameter and length for a fist-grab. It's easily stowable and packable, but not so small you'll lose it in the bottom of your satchel or ruck sack. - Great feel with that knurled aluminum chasis Mag made famous. It sill feels like a Mag. Solid and grippable. - High and low modes at 200lm and 40lm respectively. Click on for high, double-click on for low. Simple. No nonsense like strobe or S.O.S. Just high or low. The low mode is great for a lot of things, like close up work (reading, changing a tire in the dark, etc.), and at 20% power really preserves battery life. The high mode is bright. Quite bright, with good throw. I know there are much brighter lights out there, but for me, 200lm is an ideal brightness. I really don't want over 300lm for everyday use. This is plenty bright for nighttime treks, camping, finding your curcuit breakers, scanning the backyard, whatever. Only rarely is a brighter flashlight called for, so unless you're after straight up lumen bragging rights, this'll do just fine. - Still O-ring sealed for water and dust resistance, just like your dad's Maglite. - Tail standable. The tail switch is recessed so you can stand the flashlight on end. - Optional and reversable pocket clip. You need a the little tool to move or remove the clip, though. The clip also keeps the flashlight from rolling away. - You can get filters from Mag for the lens. This was a deciding factor for me, since I planned to use it in stargazing sessions. I needed the red filter to preserve night vision. - It claimes 6 hours and 45 minutes runtime on high, and 25 hours on low. That's amazing. - And finally, for what it's worth, it's made in the USA. Bottom line: If you are looking for an excellent everyday, multi-purpose flashlight, don't discount the Mag XL50. Without hesitation I give this light 5 stars because it's excellent within the class it claims to be. The batteries have never leaked (anectodally, I use Energizer Max, not Duracell). If you need an 800lm tactical light that uses special high-performance batteries, this is not that. This is simply a bright, solid, easy to use, packable—almost pocketable—general purpose flashlight that has served me well both camping and around the house for about two years now. Update: Well, what do you know? It does have a strobe mode! Anyway, it's not easy to accidentally turn it on, cause I didn't even know about it. Triple-click for strobe. Still a great light.

The absolute best small flashlight one can purchase!
Maglite has always been great flashlights, but they exceeded my expectations with this one. I actually have two of them, one using a red filter so I can sneak into the bedroom and not have a lot of white light wake my wife. You can see well with the filters and filtered light will not usually awaken someone when you use it to walk into your bedroom. The other light is straight white which is amazingly bright. And the three AAA batteries last a long time in these flashlights. I am going to get some rechargeable AAA batteries for these lights to cut down on the costs of batteries!

A very good product !!!
This is my first Maglite and I'm happy with it. I like the Tactical Pack (the Pocket Clip and especially the three colored lenses with their distinct uses). My only regret for such a product is that there is no provision for having the three lenses with you (without losing them or risking damaging them)... From France.

great little torch
no real complaints, just a couple of gripes. overall, a great light, well worth the money. my first complaint is that the belt clip isn't tight. it's firmly mounted onto the light, that's not what i mean... what i mean is that the clip part doesn't hold tight against the light. so it can slide off your belt more easily than if the tip of the clip were held nice a tight against the body of the light. second complaint is simply that it doesn't have a momentary-on mode. it would be easy to implement; just have the button switch to momentary mode when the button is held down longer than a second. i have an inova that has that exact feature. so the button works the same as this light, one press is high, two is low, three is strobe, but a long press puts it in momentary mode, so when you release, the light goes out. not a problem, since they tell you exactly what you're getting, but it's such a great light (combination of bright and long life), it would be perfect imo if it had that mode.

Good hunting/camping/nightstand light.
I use this as a nightstand flashlight for when the dog gets skunked or the power goes out. It works great for both. It came with an pocket clip which is rounded nicely and fits comfortably in your hand. The lenses work great and I use them so I can walk around early in the morning without disturbing my wife. The shape is a bit fat to use in a pocket, but if you used it in a pouch on a molle vest or something I think it would work great. It could also be a decent hunting/camping light.

Tough
Very tough. Very bright. One handed use. I have it in my tool pouch, and use it daily.

Nice and bright, made in the U.S.
This flashlight is bright and has a long throw. I can see clearly out to around 200 meters. It has an adjustable beam. With the red lens, it cuts the brightness some and with the adjustable brightness on low, it can be used for map reading at night. It's small enough to fit in a pocket or to be mounted on equipment. It even comes with a detachable pocket clip. The strobe setting can be used to disorient an attacker. It's inexpensive and made in America (California). It also takes AAA batteries that can be bought anywhere.

Awsome quality, design, and price.
SOOOO much better then many units costing twice as much. Not too many modes; just the right ones. Great quality, performance and size. I have several of these flashlights and use them all the time. Low setting is perfect when you're looking for something under the couch or in a gang box, but doesn't burn up the batteries. High lights up the room. Strobe would be perfect for defensive use. Well made, compact, and MUCH less expensive then a lot of other "tactical" lights.

I saw a few bad reviews on this light but after buying it and using mine, I’ve got to say Maglite is still my name to go to for flash lights.

I know it's a good torch. As it couldn't be posted to Ireland I got it sent to my sister in England. She then posted it to me in Ireland. That was weeks ago so I hope the person that robbed it will put up a good review!
