I'm really liking this bag!
I just got my Texbo full grain thick cowhide leather shoulder briefcase 17" laptop bag tote yesterday via UPS. I got the Brown one, but it also comes in a light brown and an updated version in black. The color matches very well with what is in the pictures actually. The black one is an updated version that has different hardware. I don't have the updated one so I can't compare, but if you look at the pictures you will notice the two outside belts have a clip clasp on them rather than the traditional belt buckle. I am assuming they did this on the updated black one to make it faster to open up. I prefer the traditional 3 belt buckle look and when I need it really secure, I will use all 3, but just for everyday use, I will only buckle the middle one and tuck the other two up back through the belt loops on the top flap.Is it heavy? Yes, it is, but it's a leather briefcase, so what did you expect. If you are going from a cheap backpack made of nylon or something like that, then you will notice the difference in weight for sure. With that said, since the strap is long (and quite adjustable), when I carry it, I carry it cross body with one of the pads on my shoulder and one offset across my chest. It is actually very comfortable that way and the weight is not as noticeable. No it does not have a way to do a passthrough to secure it to your roller bag carry on when walking through an airport. That's why I opted to spend an extra $11 and get a Travelon Bag Bungee (Amazon item B001TR0UZI). It fit very well on the particular carryon that I have (Samsonite Sphere 2). It's just the design of this type of bag - this style has the pocket in the back (just like a Saddleback Leather Classic Briefcase), so I just went with the cheap solution and it seems to work very well.As for the Texbo briefcase, the leather has a very light and pleasant leather smell - not strong at all in my opinion. It is crazy horse leather, so it will scratch very easy, but that actually is what I was looking for. I did end up getting some Leather Honey leather conditioner as well that I will put on a little later. The hardware feels pretty solid to me, so I am not expecting any troubles. My work laptop is a Dell 15.6" (diagonal screen measurement) and it fits in with plenty of room to spare. I do have a large gaming laptop (Asus RO G75VX) that is 17.3" and it just barely does not fit. and I mean just barely. The 17.3" (diagonal) screen laptop measures over 16 1/4" wide and the Texbo is not quite wide enough to slide it down in properly. A laptop with a width of 15.5" should work just fine. You might be able to fit a 16"wide laptop too, but I don't have one that size to test.I would recommend getting a cable organizer if you don't already have one. With these types of bags (with no zipper to close up), there is a small gap at the top sides that may appear if you don't have the top fairly tight (center belt buckle). if you travel and you know how things get moved around in the overhead bins, if you have the buckle somewhat loose and have some loose small items, there is a small chance they may slip out. Cable organizers (or something like it) will completely alleviate that concern. I got the BUBM Large black storage bag (Amazon item B07B29FJDL) and it seems to work very well for this.Overall, this Texbo bag feels very sturdy (thus some of the weight) and I love the design - I wanted something somewhat similar to a Saddleback Leather briefcase, but did not want to spend that kind of money on it. With the fact that the Texbo briefcase is so much cheaper than the Saddleback Leather ones, it seems like the best decision at just under $200. Is the leather as good as a Saddleback Leather bag? Well, not quite, but if you are not a leather aficionado where you have to have the best of the best at any cost, then this bag is one that I would highly recommend and I know I will enjoy using it for many years. Plus the Texbo is about 2 or 2.5 pounds lighter than the Saddleback Leather Classic Large Briefcase from the specs, so if you're concerned about weight in the first place, keep that in mind.

Sturdy, rugged, large capacity
Bought this years ago as a gift for husband while in college. It has been 7+ years and still in great condition. Well worth it. Would purchase again if the current one ever needs replaced.

Lifetime Quality / Unsurpassed Value
First off, I did receive a slight discount in exchange for writing an unbiased review. True to my word, this review is totally unbiased.1. This bag was bought for my son, who will be starting college in the fall of 2015 and who wants to major in Biomedical Engineering.2. I wanted to buy him a leather bag to hold his laptop computer and books.3. I researched for 2 weeks attempting to find an affordable leather messenger/briefcase bag. The more I researched, the more discouraged I became. All the bags I researched on line were either too small, too narrow, substandard leather, junky straps, had zippers that would fail, faux leather, and the list went on... each with mixed to substandard reviews. I loved the quality and style of Saddleback's leather briefcase / messenger bag, but at the price of $600, who can afford it, certainly not me.** Well, my search ended when I saw the "Texbo Real Thick Cowhide Bag" on Amazon.com. It looked exactly like Saddleback's, at only a third of the cost. My only hesitation, was that it originates from Italy (I'm a buy USA guy), and the bag only had 3 reviews. I wrote the seller to express my desire to buy and review the bag. I ordered the bag, and promptly 2 days later it arrived via Amazon Prime, and was bag was shipped in arguably the best packaging of a product I've ever received. My first impression was that the box was real heavy... and I mean solid and heavy. When I opened the box, the bag was tightly wrapped in thick material that totally protected the leather, and the bag was not visible. When I unwrapped the protective layer and feasted my eyes on this bag, I was totally impressed. Every square inch of this bag is made to last a lifetime - from the leather and stitching, to the pockets, seams, buckles and snaps. Everything screams quality! The handle to the bag was found inside the main compartment, and it too is uncompromising quality. The size of the bag is amazing. The two main compartments will easily hold my son's MacBook Pro, 3 large 2" thick hardbound books, and some folders. The two interior pockets measure 4.5" wide x 8.5" deep! These pockets were easily accessible with my large hands and have no zippers to break. Large calculators, wallets, or snacks can easily fit in these pockets. Sewn inside the leather compartments is a tough slippery nylon material, that allows the user to easily pack and unpack items without getting hung up on the leather. The two exterior side pockets are smaller and measure 2.5" wide x 3.75" deep (My one suggestion for the maker, is to make the exterior side pockets wider by extending the pockets the entire length of each side of the bag). The large rear exterior pocket runs the length of the bag and easily expands to fit folders or other items that need easy accessibility. The D rings and buckles are quality. I wouldn't hesitate to attach a Nalgene bottle to an upper D-ring. If your looking for a Large Quality Thick Heavy Leather Messenger Bag/Briefcase that will hold lots of items, you need not shop further. Considering the unbelievable quality of this bag, I think the $200 price point is a great value.

Great sturdy bag
This bag is well made and very heavy duty. It has a heavy feel and although I have only used it for a few weeks it seems like it will hold up really well. The colour of the leather is true to the picture and the straps are all sturdy and stitched well. It has lots of space for my laptop, cord, accessories and several legal size files. There are some smaller compartments for hold pens and usb keys etc. I would not hesitate to recommend this bag.

I've owned the Texbo bag for ~5 months now and have used the bag every day as a briefcase for work. Having to carry a laptop, legal reference books, files, etc usually results in a bag weight of around 20lbs and the bag remains comfortable, professional, and durable. Once conditioned, the leather had no issue shedding water and snow as required.First - shipping. Wow. It arrived 2 days before scheduled arrival date, wonderfully packaged and protected. It was exactly as promised. As the bag does show marks when it is banged around (more on that later), it was easy to tell that the bag was well handled by Texbo during construction and packaging. That was much appreciated. My first impression of the bag was that it smelled fantastic. I love the smell of leather and this one smelled like leather. I'd read reviews that mentioned Texbo bags having a chemical smell - not the case with mine. It smelled like leather because there is a whole LOT of leather. It's a big bag. Really big, exactly as ordered. That said, if you want a bag with a smaller footprint, this can be for you as well. Simply attached the D-Rings on the bottom together (there are many creative knots or leather straps that can be used for this) and limit how wide the bag can stretch. This is absolutely not something I had to do as the bag is usually full when carrying it.Both the shoulder strap and the closing center strap have remained as they were when purchased, clean, unstretched, with tight stitch lines. The stitchinging is uniform, parallel and appears to be done well enough for the bag to stand up to frequent use. My use of the bag has not harmed it in any way and I am absolutely not gentle with it. The bag closes securely with just the single center closure strap, I've never used the outer ones and like won't. I've kept them on the bag because it looks better with them. The handle of the bag has started to develop that gorgeous leather patina that comes from frequent use. The rest of the bag has collected use marks that are expected and, imho, add to the character and beauty of it. In an environment where a lot of people are carrying nice briefcases, I do love getting compliments about mine and asked where I got it. Many expect that it is the much higher priced (3x the price) "other company" and I gladly let people know where I got mine and the price I paid.I have treated the leather on the bag a couple of times now. After the second treatment I added a sealant to the leather to change it from the "rustic" appearance to a more polished finish. It worked beautifully and the bag only looks better. The lining on the bag is a nice fabric that allows laptops, files, books to slide into and out of it with ease. The items don't snag in and are easy to access. I've used unlined leather bags in the past and would not use one again. The pouches are also very useful and have not shown any signs of damage, degradation, or stitch issues. The pouches on the outside of the bag that appear to be bottle holders are quite small. I've used a small thermos (~3") in them and it fits but is very snug. This makes it secure and while it might be difficult to remove, I prefer that over potentially losing it. I have a collapsible umbrella that I use in the second outer pouch and it is ideally placed. All in all, I am incredibly happy with this product. I truly cannot think of any features I would add to the bag or any changes I would make to it. My only hesitation in purchasing the bag was that the rustic appearance would not send the professional message I wanted to send. It didn't but a quick conversation with a leather worker let me know how to change the appearance without damaging the bag.I love this bag. I fully expect to use it for a long, long time.

Really nice messenger bag style briefcase
I have had this bag for several weeks now. I use it every day as my work briefcase. Very fast shipping. Exactly as described. High quality thick leather. I like the rustic look of the bag. The leather is thick enough and heavy enough such that the bag keeps it shape well. I highly recommend this bag. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Very well made
Excellent bag! Well made, very sturdy. The shoulder strap is very sturdy and does not dig into my shoulder. The bag extends wide enough to hold files and a lap top. I bought this bag for my husband and he absolutely loves it! He has bought a few bag in the past and none of those even come close for the multi purpose use and work-manship this bag offers. I bought brown but now thinking of also buying the black bag.

The gift that will last years to come.
I ordered this leather bag for my husband. I was surprised when the item was delivered early, and very impressed when I opened the package. The care that was taken in wrapping the item was the first thing I noticed. But I was most impressed when I reviled the item, the pure smell of leather followed by the beauty and the quality of the item. I know my husband is going to love this, it is a gift that will last years to come. I would recommend this item and give it a five star rating.
