Get a Headset Buddy adapter. It's built to last.
The first time I ordered this adapter was December 2015. I was surprised when I saw that it was well made. Leading up to this past summer in 2017 it still worked well, no audio or mic issues the quality was still as good as the first day. The only problem was that I lost it. Skip ahead to know I finally ordered a new one after getting swindled on Ebay with a knock of that, didn't produce great audio and stopped working 3 months in.We can say I learned my lesson and that's when I came back to Amazon and decided this was the only way to find the real Headset Buddy adapter that is worth the price. Don't be cheap and go on Ebay guys, stay right here and order this adapter from the source. Glad I can finally record audio for my vlogs on my laptop minus the headache of faulty adapter.

Helps you use your own equipment
Works great, sound quality is great.I bought this adapter for my Viliv S5 after seeing a video on youtube showing that you can use an iphone headset with the viliv s5 and be able to voice chat with it, but my aim was to use a single mono mic to record lectures.Pros- Works great, with excellent audio quality.- Use any different combination of audio input/output equipment you like with it (speakers, headphones, headsets, mics)Cons- Mic port has to be stereo. Most headsets use stereo mics, so if you're using it with a headset it won't be a problem, but if you need to use a mono mic you'll have to purchase a "mono to stereo" adapter to use in combination with it - you can find one here: Cables To Go 40634 3.5mm Stereo Male to 3.5mm Mono Female Adapter (Metallic Silver)

Works like a charm
I bought a nice headset with microphone for Skyping, but when I tried to connect it to my laptop I discovered my Lenovo T410 Laptop has a single 3.5mm jack for earphones and mic combined. -Turns out nearly all headsets with mic come with two plugs - so none fit my laptop. I visited quite a few stores and couldn't find a moderately priced headset with mic and a single plug, or an adapter. Few salesmen suggested a USB headset instead, but it was more expensive, and when I checked I was told it has compatibility issues with some versions of Skype. -Who wants to deal with driver issues for a headset? -It should just work!So I ordered two of these adapters. I chose them for the color coding and because people wrote they worked for their laptops. My initial experience is great: sound is good on both mic and earphones; the plugs click is solid and holds tight; it's short enough not to get in the way; the color coding helps and matches my headset plug colors.I'm happy with it.

Works great, and stereo, too!
First: Quality is good. Solid click. Well built. It works-as-you-expect with a 3.5MM jack used on many smartphones. It also works on both my Droid X and Lenovo T410 using a Sennheiser headset. However, it is confusing: I debated buying this over-and-over because it said "Works with stereo headsets, outputs binaural (both ears) sound with a mono channel". So, what does this mean? I still don't know. Binaural (wiki) says it has some 'blah-diddy-blah' awesome sound. But, it also implies it does binaural mono making me think it would be like an old-tin-can. I have no idea what that means. Whatever it is, it sounds just fine. I hear two different signals in each ear (left/right according to Windows test sounds) and music sounds accurate / as normal as ever.So...Other than a price that you'd expect to pay at an airport kiosk (i.e. somewhat higher than normal prices), it works great and you'll save yourself a trip to the store.

Poor quality
I used it with my cellphone mainly for the benefit of the boom mic that comes with my gaming headset. The quality of the connection seems to be better than when using the ear buds with the inline mic.The quality of the connection was good, while it worked. Unfortunately the quality of the cable that ends with the jack seems to be sub par - it is visually much thinner than the other 2 cables in this adapter and on top of that it does seems very delicate. It gave up after a year of very light use - I used maybe 20 times in total, and I was very careful with it (so no walking around while talking or anything like that). When I try to use it now, the connection is intermittent (I hear the other party on and off, depending how the cable is positioned). I suspect that one of the the wires inside the cable just broke.I don't recommend the product, especially for the price they charge for it.Just to put things into perspective, the headset that came with my cell phone still works perfectly after 4 years of using it almost on daily basis (that includes using it while walking, running etc).

May not work with all Smartphones
Plugged into my Nokia N95 smartphone and "Accesory not supported" was displayed. Also tried plugging in the adapter without the headset (Sennheiser PC-166, w/o the USB adapter of course) and the phone did allow me to select it as a Headset accessory until plugging the headset into the adapter. The left speaker worked briefly with VERY poor sound quality; right speaker, nothing. About four seconds into this test, I heard a bunch of clicking in the left speaker and the phone then reported "Not supported" as before and couldn't verify microphone functionality. Trying the test using an OEM Nokia earbud/microphone set (included with my N800 tablet) worked flawlessly on my N95 so the phone is working properly.EDIT: I Sent this off to a family member for use with an EVO 4G Android phone. Works perfectly with her Sennheiser PC-151 headset we usually use for Skype and gaming. Just has to roll up the excess cordage and put in pocket with the phone. Sound clarity is ALMOST as good as Skype on a PC. Much, much better solution than her really awful bluetooth adapter. Also bumped my original [1] Star rating up to a [3] Star rating. Now if I could just find another adapter that Nokia Symbian (in particular, Belle on an N8) phones will recognize as a HEADSET. The Nokia software is just really finicky when determining WHAT you have plugged into the 3.5mm jack.

It does exactly what you expect it to do. No problems using this with my Lenovo laptop.

The headset is well made and does what it's supposed to. The vendor shipped promptly and it arrived quickly.

The audio is worst than if I wouldn't have used that
The audio is worst than if I wouldn't have used that. As for the microphone side, It works fairly well (still need to test).
