great college dorm safe but pricey
I had the earlier version but the locking mechanism was cheap and prone to failure; this update is much nicer and recommended; easy to program; well built but it's pricey for what you get. Wish the cable it came with was longer and thicker; I could cut the cable with some heavy gardening shears. The first thing I would replace is the worthless cable it comes with. Really for the price it should have come with a nicer thicker cable.

Excellent safe
This was a gift for my boyfriend for his college dorm room. With him being a very private person, I decided to give him this for his birthday. He loved it! It's very hefty, FedEx said it was about 40 pounds when it was delivered. I opened it up beforehand to check everything and put batteries in the safe. It is just as described, with really nice sturdy shelves inside. The walls of the safe are thin, but its doubtful that anyone in a college dorm room will have any of the necessary tools to break through the walls. The instructions that came with the safe were good, but provided no troubleshooting help. We had trouble getting my boyfriends personal PIN code to accept, and the instructions didn't provide any troubleshooting help to that affect. It was a weekend, so the customer service was not available which is okay. I was going to call Monday. We figured it out, he programmed his credit card and then the PIN code would go through. All of his charge cords fit through the bottom holes perfectly, and he's storing candy in it right now until he takes it to college. I was very pleased with the safe, and my boyfriend was too. My parents even expressed a desire to get one simply because it is so handy and appears so sturdy and well designed. I'll update this eventually when my boyfriend gets to college and uses it for its intended purpose, rather than storing candy.

Great safe, just a couple of suggestions.
Once we got it working, it was great. We used an Energizer battery, and the lock wouldn't open. I called the company. They said to use a Duracell battery instead because it puts out more power. It worked! I suggest putting that in the instructions. Also, the instructions say to turn the handle clockwise to open. It actually turns counter-clockwise.We had to put a power strip outside the safe and run charging cords to it. The plug on a couple of different charging cords is too big to fit through the hole in the safe.I would like the safe to be just a little bit wider, but overall it is perfect for a dorm room.

The safe is very durable, and reliable...
Gave this safe as a gift to our college-bound granddaughter, Eris, and after using the safe in her dorm room for a month, she wrote this review:Here is my review on the safe you got me:The safe is very durable, and reliable. I never have trouble getting in to the safe, or closing it. The interior is spacious; I am able to fit my laptop, iPods, all chargers, and wallet without it being cramped. One feature that I was surprised, and grateful for is that it has shelves on the right side of the safe, which is where I store my chargers and iPods while they're not in use. One thing the company may want to consider for its next generation of safes, is to install a fingerprint reader similar to the one IPhone 5s has. From,ErisSent from my iPhone

Sturdy, fits 17"laptoo easily, extra room too
So, I upgraded the cable used to secure the safe to desk or bed. Would totally fit a 17' laptop. Plenty of room for additional items. Cellphone wallet, watch, keys, etc.. I added battery operated motion sensor LED strips so it lights up when opened. Just an FYI, combo MUST be six digits. Programming works eventhough the response beeps don't work as explained in instructions.

They have not sold the one with key access in yrs (according to the mfgr). Great item but it can only be opened electronically.
Please read this if you are expecting it to have a key backup based on some of the reviews

Fits big computer plus room for more
Everything fit. This is a great safe and it is great for big computers. We were having problems finding a safe that would work with the big computer my daughter had for engineering and it works and then has room for other items as well. We are very happy. We will find a place to lock it to when we get to her dorm. It should be no problem.

Ideal for dorm room
The safe is well constructed and very easy to set up the electronic lock both the card swipe and pin number. One item that we did not see before we installed the safe was the type of battery that the electronic lock requires (9 volt), so we had to run out after opening the package to get the right size battery. The safe also comes with an emergency key if the battery fails. Humorous note, the owners manual state store the key in a safe place (not in the safe). There are holes large enough for a security cable (we bought a longer cable since we did not what we would be securing the safe to in my daughter's dorm room). We were also able to put an extension cord in the safe to allow for my daughter's laptop to be charges while it is in the safe. The safe is large enough to fit my daughter's 13" laptop plus shelving for additional items.
