Highly recommend. One caveat.
Highly recommend. Rich descriptions of the character, and characters, of the island with pulse-pounding action. That being said, I told myself when I started the third book in the trilogy [The Chessmen] that if, like the other two, it had a youth falling from a great height after a challenge from a bully as a major plot point, I would down-rate the series. So only 4 stars.

very interesting reading.
Takes place on Lewis Island, Scotland and I found that, having Google Earth at hand, it was fun to see all the places described in the text. There is a lot of bird slaughter in book one so if that is a problem, you might not want to read this.

Peter May's Lewis trilogy is a great read
I really loved reading the Lewis Trilogy. I have recommended it to others (and have lent it to others who also really liked it). If you like mysteries, the Trilogy, set in islands off Scotland, is a very good read.

An extraordinary contribution by Peter May
I had never read anything by this author, but was somewhat attracted by the focus and setting in the islands. I was not disappointed and even somewhat mesmerized by the writing, characters and local (about which Peter May writes with unparalleled talent). If you read one, you will want to read them all, so I was very pleased to have gotten the trilogy box set at a relative bargain.

this is the way to buy these books
I've read only the first of the trilogy, and I look forward to reading the other two. The price was outstanding. In any case the second two books were not yet distributed in the U.S.

Thrillers
I have enjoyed these books....like the main detective and also the wonderful way that Mr. May describes the Scottish Islands...and the people...so bleak and cold - not the people but the islands themselves. Well worth reading but read them in order.....

Wow
My sister lent me this book, and it was soo good I had to buy the trilogy. Love the way the Peter May writes, giving you the 'crime' but also the background and humanity of all his characters. Big Thumbs up from me.

Decent Reads
The first one was the best and they were a little repetitive on descriptions of the environs etc. No particular likable characters
