Civil Engineering All-In-One PE Exam Guide: Breadth and Depth, Third Edition 3rd Edition

I bought this book on a recommendation from other civil engineers who passed the Civil PE, and I’m glad I purchased it. This book helped me pass on my first try. My method of studying for the PE exam was doing as many practice problems as I could get my hands on, and this book does a great job of presenting the material, and organizing it in a useful way. I found the CERM a bit overwhelming for learning concepts. This book is much easier to learn from, and uses notation that I am familiar with.I highly recommmend buying this book for the AM depth portion of the exam. I used this book the most during my studies, as well as on test day. I found it useful for the geotechnical depth as well. I only used the CERM for more obscure lookups on topics I’m not used to seeing on test day. I would also recommend buying Goswami’s practice exam book for additional problems to work on.

As stated above, one of the daunting things I found when I started studying for the PE is 'where do I begin?'I started off by going through the Civil Engineering Reference Manual (CERM), which is a great reference, but it's not really ideal as a study tool. the All-In-One is setup like a traditional text book, with examples and solutions within the chapters, and allows you to create a better framework for studying.I've got a feeling this is also gonna be my go-to resource during the breadth portion of the test.Update: Passed the test. This definitely was extremely useful for the prep. I'd say I used this book exclusively for 65% of the questions. All-in-all, I'd say for the price, this book was definitely worth it. Just make note of which codes this book references vs. what's on the exam.

This is written more like a text book or review book rather than a reference manual. It's a good way to refresh breadth areas you're not very comfortable with or haven't worked on in a few years. The explanations are mostly clear and well-written, but watch out for a handful of errors here and there.It is not detailed enough to serve as a reference during the PE exam. Overall a useful book but not a replacement for the CERM. I studied extensively from this book, and brought it to the exam with me, but did not actually end up using it during the exam (which I passed).

This book was the most helpful for studying for the Civil PE. It does a much better job teaching you the material than the CERM does and is a great reference as well. I feel you should have both this and the CERM for the Civil PE AM portion.I used this book on 80% of the morning questions. I used the CERM on 15% of the morning questions (5% were other materials). I also used this as a tool for the afternoon structures discipline on about 25% of the questions. I definitely recommend getting the practice test book that goes with this, it was the most difficult practice exam I took, but the most helpful.The only issue I have with the book is the name as it miss-leads people it has everything you need.

I found this book to be very useful, but it doesn't replace the CERM. This was a great addition to my study materials and I used it in equal amounts to the CERM when I took the exam. I took the civil-construction exam and passed in April 2019. I wouldn't say it replaced the CERM but I thought it was worth the investment.

The book is helpful for all areas of the morning AM exam and could do with some help from other texts for the PM exam. The very few errors are easy to spot, and they won't cripple you.I took the author's review course, most of the time during the evenings, his course gave me the kickstart I needed after I've been out of class since 1994. He is a good teacher.I bought the SERM, read it and solve all the problems from front cover to the back cover.To pass your PE, all you need is the latest CERM, this book, and if your PM exam is Structures, then get the SERM as well... plus your codes.

I purchased this book because it was much more reasonably priced, when compared to the Lindburg book. I like the book overall, though the index leaves much to be desired. I find this book to be more helpful, in that it is more direct and less theory-driven, than the Lindberg book. My partiality to this book may be that I started studying with this one until a co-worker offered for me to borrow his Lindberg book.In the actual exam this past week, I will say that I reached for the Lindberg book more often because of the better index, but I rarely found his book useful and would then grab the Goswami book for a better description/clarification.

Passed in April 17. I bought this as well as the CERM. I found this to be a better studying aid. There is less background material in here. For those of us who remember the theory well, this book cuts to the chase for the topic areaz whereas the CERM has tons of theory that isn't strictly in the exam.I will caution you though- I thought this would be my primary reference on the exam, and used it as such during studying. On the actual test, I found myself relying on the CERM way more, and this did not have all the material I needed.I recommend this, but not over the CERM.
