This is not going to stop anyone who's really intent on getting inside. But it'll slow down someone enough so that this won't be taken in a quick smash and grab robbery.It makes a good safe to keep under a car seat to hold valuables when you leave the car with a valet or something like that. Yes, a valet or someone like that could force it open, but then he'd have to explain why the safe was clearly forced open. For the valet who just has nosey fingers looking for things that aren't well hidden, this will keep your stuff safe. The cable is strong enough to keep the safe from walking away quickly.It's also thin enough to slide under a car seat easily and stay out of sight. I often go into places where I can't take my phone with me. I like knowing that if someone breaks into my car that my phone can be secured in this so I'm not completely screwed. I think it would take a minute to break the cable or lock unless someone breaks into the car with tools in hand. (But if someone's prepared to break into a lock box with tools, even a hundred dollar safe isn't going to stop them.) A smash and grab car thief is looking for loose change in the cup holder or things like that where they can get in and get away in 20-30 seconds before anyone notices they aren't supposed to be there. They typically aren't going to hang around strong arming a safe cable for a minute or more, drawing attention to themselves.I also think it would work just fine for keeping the kids in your house away from a pistol. (Especially when combined with hiding it out of reach of kids) You could bust the lock with a screwdriver and force, but not without breaking the lock and making it obvious the case had been forced open.If you are worried about a small child stumbling on the case and just being curious what's in it, it will keep them out securely and effectively. If you are worried about someone (kid or otherwise) who is willing to steal from you, you will want to get a more secure safe for a hand gun.As for sizing with a pistol, it fits a full size 1911 perfectly with room for at least 1 magazine. It's not a roomy fit, but it fits. If you're looking for the smallest secure case possible for a full size 1911, this is the one.

Great secure box for home and travel

It fit inside the center console of my truck and it barely fit my gun. The only thing I didn't like is that the case doesn't have the pre-drilled two holes to mount the case to the bottom of the console frame so that no one can just open the it and take the whole case with my gun in it.

Just wanted to post my photos for the Shield guys out there.Fits my 9mm Shield easily, and lots of ammo. I carry the 7 rd magazine with a 5th finger extension on it, then always carry one 10-round extended magazine on my belt (Hyve Technologies "+2" magazine). This setup fits easily in the snapsafe.So that means that the gun plus extra standard 8 rd magazine fits well, of course.And the gun plus two standard 8 rd magazines all fits also - though just barely.I have not attacked this with a bolt cutter, nor tools in order to destroy it, but as anyone should know -(1) I have no doubt this could be destroyed / opened with a good screwdriver, pry bar and hammer if given enough time. But it would not be very easy.(2) sure, you could cut the cable with standard bolt cutters in 1 second.But I think you'd be a fool to buy this as your only means of protecting your firearm left in a bad neighborhood. The gun needs to be on you, concealed at all times. I only bought this for---- to follow the law, and secure unloaded, locked in a case in the trunk while driving - for those few states where I cannot get a permit to conceal (Maryland, S. Carolina). It is not to thwart criminals, but to make the LEOs happy if I'm pulled over, and keep me out of jail.----- perhaps rarely to lightly secure in the car in the event that I am absolutely forced to leave my weapon in the car because some location prohibits concealed weapons and scans for them. But that might be twice a year, in places where there is a perceived zero risk of theft anyway, and I'm only trying to avoid a hassle in the "gun free" area.-----I think this safe would be fine to prevent small children from access, in your home. But I have two biometric safes that are muche heavier, for that purpose, and to allow me faster access if needed for emergencies.Bottom line : if you have a shield, this is a good light safe for you, not really to deter theft, but for children or automobile travel concerns.
