First Impression
I had been shopping for an entry level dual voltage welder for months. It seems that most of the entry level welders, including those from the big names in welding, are made in China. Many share a reviews that the electrode holder and work clamp are flimsy and need replacement. In reading reviews I came across a reviewer who mentioned a Canaweld stick welder. Said it worked well and had high quality components. I checked it out. Found it is made in Canada. And it was inexpensive. I ordered the 161 DU stick welder, Canaweld's entry level machine, and just unboxed it today. I am very impressed with the quality. The work clamp and electrode holder are high quality and are attached to 12' leads of heavy duty wire. Everything that I can see appears to be very solid and much better than many other entry level stick welders that I looked at. The machine will do lift arc tig as well. I bought this machine to repair items around the house, to build metal projects and to learn to weld better. I have been struggling with a very cheap low power AC machine. I can't wait to use this new welder!

Works well on 110V, good customer support
I'm a welding novice. I've only used the welder on 110V 15amp circuit. It has worked fine with 1/16 inch and 3/32 rods as far as I can tell. It didn't cause my breaker to trip.I chose this make/model over others because:* it has a higher duty cycle than most others.* comes with a longer warranty than most.* support from Canada not overseas.* can do TIG welding in the future if needed.* can do heavier jobs at 220V in the future if needed. It was missing the 110V adapter. Amazon support contacted the company and had an adapter out to me within a few business days. Physically, all the connections/clamps are tight and heavy. I'm happy with my purchase so far.

Best buy for the buck
Shipped very fast, I was new to the brand but gave it a shot and I sure am glad i did! It welds better on smaller gauge metals than my gas powered Ranger. It is light and well made and lay’s a far better bead than other comparable welders.

Well Built Compact Welding Machine - Money Well Spent
For a compact welding machine that runs on 110 or 220 the canaweld 161 DU is a excellent at home machine for the DIYer. I welded professionally for almost 15 years and used many different big name machine brands that didn’t produce better welds. I was impressed that it would burn a 6011 1/8” rod using 110 on a 15amp breaker. Don’t hesitate to buy this well built compact machine.

Nice Welder
We've used the welder a few times a month since we bought it with no complaints. Mainly 7018 rods on 1/4" angle and tubing. It has good penetration and the beads is consistent. The carrying case is nice as well.We would buy it again.

Me encanta.

Missing/broken parts.
Mine came with a broken electrode holder, and no 120v adapter. Of course no customer service on Saturday.
