A Traveller's History of India

I read a lot of books by Indian authors. I wanted an easy to manage overview of the country's history. This fit the bill perfectly. It is an enjoyable read and, with the index, is a reference book as well.Check out the "Look Inside" feature at the top of the page to see the details of the book. The author provides maps and illustrations that add to the text. Plus the Chronology of Major Events and Historical Gazetteer were welcome additions.I highly recommend this.

I wanted to read this book prior to a business trip to India to get a better understanding of culture. I like this series of books and this one did not disappoint. The last quarter of the book, which talks about 20th century history, gets a little slow.

A wonderful and amazingly informative book. I enjoyed this book for some many reasons, but I got it before I traveled and it was very helpful.

This book has very little thing you need to know about India. I love the format and pictures along with maps to tour India. This book makes traveling to India enjoyable from my own chair at home.

I love this book! It has so much wonderful information! If you are going to India you should get this book. It has history, culture, architecture, language, customs, and so much more! I love it!!!!

I always enjoy reading the books in this series when I am travelling. My only caveat about this book is that it is largely political history with few references to architecture and notable sites.

A fascinating and easy read. No other author has succeeded in summarising India'a vast history and cultural complexities so succinctly.

This is a wonderful overview of India's history and culture, as was another in the series on Turkey. When you see something monumental such as the Taj Mahal,, you can place in in time and have a feeling for it's true significance in the human fabric.
