Works as good as the branded option.Update:1. It is important to use a shielded USB cable. I was having a lot of intermittent connection issues with this and the branded PICKit. The issues were completely resolved when I started using a shielded USB cable (Such as the red cable that comes with the device).2. I wasted a lot of time waiting for the automatic bootloader update to complete for my new Kit. I was about to throw in the towel when I realized the MPLab IPE had popped up a modal dialog hidden behind another screen, causing the download to appear to be stuck. This is a Microchip problem, not Kit issue. Just be aware.@Bolsen, It would be great if the you would add a note on the packaging to alert the user that a shielded cable is required.I give this 4 stars because it is should standout as being just as good as the branded product; might as well buy this one. That said, the overall PICKit implementation is really bad in general!

The programmer itself works fine with MPLAB X 5.45 and 6.00 even under Linux. The ZIF adapter board however isn't wired correctly for PIC24FJ devices regardless of jumper settings. I spent days figuring this out and in the end just wired up a breadboard.

This may be software compatible, but the listing is misleading. This is not actually a PICkit programmer.
