Great for allergy sufferers
We have used this for years in our bedrooms and it really helps with our allergies. I've got the smaller version for my daughter's room. Make sure to get some good quality citric acid to clean the humidifier filter monthly and this thing will last forever. Good food grade citric acid is available here on Amazon and that's what I use, along with a 5 gallon HD bucket. I use the water tank for this thing to weight down the filters carefully so they stay fully submerged. Its not very loud and creates a light white noise for you that isn't too obtrusive. The filters all last a pretty long time and have different change frequencies outlined in the manual. You can get all of the filters from here on Amazon. My allergies are so bad I have to get weekly allergy shots and this really helps. I was also able to get a letter of medical necessity from my allergist so we could claim this on our medical FSA.

Smart and efficient
The auto sensor is very effective at detecting odors and the plasmacluster system noticeably improves air quality. Excellent humidifying function as well, and everything runs very quietly.

Good Humidfier - Not supported for parts replacement
Purchased this product (KC850U) in 2015 - used about 5 months each year in the hot dry season. Works really well for use in bedroom while sleeping. Now the BAD: my unit still works fine except a Styrofoam Float (bottom of page E-17 in owners manual) is on its last legs. This is an item that needs to be cleaned. I have tried to get a replacement part with no success - so I have a good running machine that needs an inexpensive part and not able to obtain it. Calling SHARP support is terrible, they say they do not sell to consumers and recommend a 3rd party that does not offer the part, and the ones they do have say unavailable. BEWARE customer support for this unit seems to be non-existent. I realize I've had mine a long time, but you would expect them to have parts support for units that are still sold - this unit is still available for purchase here and on the SHARP website.

works well, but you can't place it against the wall.
i've been using this for a day now, i know it's not a fair test i suppose, but if i wait a week i'll probably never review it. anyway i gave this a 4 because i don't like the air sucking from the back, it has no remote, it's expensive, and the lights don't dim when the lights are off, in fact the top ones stay on. i chose this one over winix because sharp invented the plasmacluster and i think they are stronger, and you can turn the stream on. i chose the humidifier because i do need extra moisture in the winter, the hepa showed it had a longer life and you can wash the pre-filter. noise: on low, you can barely hear it, you have to put your ear up to it. you know it's on because plasmacluster clicks. sort of a light ticking sound, like a tiny arc. but constant. on med, its louder, more like a soft computer fan, it's a hush from a distance of about 3' away, like a spring breeze. the cluster however changes tone - on and off in 1.5 second intervals. the sound is similar to that of a quill pen scratching across paper. annoying, but not overly so. you can't hear it from a distance of about 10' but it's there. i was hoping the louder fan (i like a little white noise), would hush it out, but the cluster just gets louder. on max - it's a bit over bearing to listen too, like a hair dryer. on pollen - it surges high and low, like a rolling wave. it's hypnotic and distracting. the instruction are confusing in this mode and quick clean where you need or don't need water in the tank. it seems to work without. on auto, it stays on low unless its needed to be faster. the odor detector works, i had to use it like chloroform and place it in a tissue of the sensor. vinegar made the green light blink. wintergreen alcohol made the unit angry and the lights turned orange to red. so that seems to work i haven't used the humidifier yet, it doesn't hold a lot of water, so i don't have high hopes for this. as an air cleaner the room is fresher - keep in mind for the first 6 hours or so the room will smell like a cross between a dept store and a pool. a deep chlorine smell. it is absorbed by the unit though. plasmacluster has many claims - removes static, makes your skin moister by placing a layer of water molecules over the skin and prevents evaporation (i find that hard to believe). they say it kills some viruses, mold and smells in the air. it can even clean the scent from cloth. i did test that last one, i have a beaver skin that had a perfume scent in it. and in 20 hours that perfume is gone. so if you have a lover that left a perfume note or pillow case - that scent will be gone quickly. someone complained about asthma and plasma - no issues here... however my eyes are very dry. someone mentioned that their air seems to get dryer with the plasma on. and this also seems true. with the door closed in my room, i started with 50% humidity, now it's 40%. which is probably why my eyes are dry. oh and though i mentioned it, turning the lights off only turns the decorations off in the front. not the top lights, though they look dim, they are bright enough to cast green circles on the ceiling. it's rather annoying. i would rather have everything turn off when the lights go out. you still need the panel on to tell you your out of water. though the tank on the side does seem to have a window. the water basin btw looks tricky to clean.

Ticking sound actually helps me, and air is clean!
I've used it for a little over a year now, and it's fantastic. I had to move in middle of the pandemic due to the rising cost of rent. But with rising demand in apartments, we didn't have much choice aka carpeted floor. Dad suggested me this, and you can tell it works cuz whenever there's a power outage and i forget to power it back on for a few days, I'll be sneezing haha. Just remember to vacuum or wash the rear filter cover. I forgot to, and dust was caked on - which explained why it felt like it wasn't working properly at one point. The picture is when we were cooking bacon and it smoked lol. It immediately knew there's something's up. (Orange color) So when the light changes color, there's a quiet ticking sound. Honestly it doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd rather it make noise since it let's me know something's in the air. I don't have a great sense of smell, so I can't tell if something's burning. But this does! I know that's not it's intended purpose but it helped me a couple of times. That said, it's soooo quiet. If I have anything going on in the background, I won't hear it. I don't use the humidifier part, but the humidity sensor is helpful!

Does the job. Very quiet.
I think this air purifier/humidifier is worth the money. You can barely hear it running. The air is so much cleaner. I've noticed my husband and one of our house pets has stop sneezing. Very simple easy to use controls (that I love) easy to fill water reservoir. We have two lap dogs and a cat in the house and its so hard to keep the pet hair swept up. The hair was always blowing around but with the humidity being higher its easier to sweep and keep house cleaner. Love it.

The Sharp humidifier has been an exceptional addition to my home. It’s quiet, powerful, and keeps the air perfectly balanced without feeling damp or stuffy. The water tank lasts a long time, the controls are simple, and the air just feels cleaner and more comfortable. It also runs smoothly with no weird smells or noises. Overall, it’s a reliable, high-quality humidifier that works exactly the way it should, and I’m extremely happy with it.

This is is my second unit and is needed to keep humidity at desired levels. The design appears to be exactly the same although my first unit is well over 10 years old. It is built well, works well and worth its relatively high cost if you are thinking you will need its functions for many years. It does have some drawbacks: there are several filters and some (HEPA) are expensive and you have almost no choices in where to get them; there is routine maintenance required (anything with water almost always does) at least every two or three months; and, the water tank needs refilling twice a day (could be bigger). Final thought, I snapped it up when I saw it available and had the money.

I really wanted to like it, but the Plasmacluster technology makes a ticking sound that Sharp noted in their user manual that "some people may hear" when producing ions and unfortunately I'm definitely one of them. I gave it a try for a good 10 days and Amazon graciously gave me full refund. And to be honest I didn't really feel much of a difference during the time when I tried the machine -- p.s I had the machine on 24/7; and I opted for a Rabbit Air instead after this machine doesn't work out for me and the first night I used Rabbit Air I saw drastic difference upon turning on the machine.

Had cough and stuffy nose for two weeks which I suspect was due to very dry air inside house with the heater being on 24hr. When the humidifier arrived, immediately turned it on and after 2hrs my room had fresh smelling air. Had a good night sleep and when I woke up my palate did not hurt like it usually did before the humidifier. Very helpful with getting rid of kitchen odour, too.

I need both an air purifier (I have two cats and live downtown in a city) and a humidifier (super dry air in winter), and have been doing a lot of research to find the perfect machine that does both...my apartment only has so much space and so many outlets. I had high hopes for this product as I'd seen it highly rated on a number of sites but I'm disappointed. I do like that it doesn't require as many filter replacements as others, and the air purification seems to work well...I had been feeling stuffed up and all of that stopped once I started using this machine. However, in a 150-square-foot room I am unable to get optimal humidity unless I turn it the fan to max, which is much too loud for sleep...30%-50% is considered ideal and some sites even recommend 40-60%. Auto and low fan just kept the humidity at "low" according to the machine so I currently have it at medium which is pleasant soundwise, but cannot get the room above 35% humidity. I had seen some reviews that said similar and I should have listened. I'm not sure there are any HEPA machines that do both functions well (based on reviews of other brands) and a Dyson is really steep so I'm considering returning it and buying two separate machines with my refund. I expected/was hoping for more at this pricepoint.
