High quality and very quiet fan
I purchased this fan to provide supplementary airflow through the case of my overclocked computer. Noctua is a bit more expensive than competing fans but, in my view, is well worth the additional few dollars. The materials and build quality of the fan and mounting are excellent. This review refers to the 140mm diameter fan. Noctura also sells a 120mm fan that is virtually identical except for size. There is nothing shabby about this product. It ships with both screws and soft rubber suspension mounts. I was a bit dubious about the rubber mounts, wondered if they would remain securely in place or pop loose from the fan case. I can report that once attached, they are not going to come loose accidentally yet can be removed and reused if desired. The fan is extremely quiet, even at full speed. Noctua attributes this to the notches molded into the trailing edges of the blades. Whatever the reason, it doesn't make much noise at all. Speed control is not accomplished on this fan through pulse width modulation, even though most current motherboards provide PWM-controlled fan connectors. Instead, Noctua provides three short connector cables, two of which have in-line resistors to reduce the speed, giving the user a choice of low, medium, or high. At the low speed, the fan is utterly noiseless. At medium, you can hear it if you listen for it. Even on high, it is almost whisper quiet. This fan is an example of why it pays to spend a little more for quality. Highly recommended.

Loud, but a good kind of loud
I have two of these running at 100% in my case. They move a monstrous amount of air. They are fairly loud, however, at 100% they are still quieter than my old cooler master fans at 30%. Also, they make a better, less annoying type of noise. It just sounds like wind, much better than the typical whine of computer fans. If the noise is an issue, I know I can throw in the low noise adapters that were included and they will be silent. Finally, the size is perfect and they fit into the space of a 120mm fan if those are the holes that your case has. If not, the 140mm adapters are metal brackets coated in rubber to reduce noise.

Masterpiece delivers as promised
What can I say? It moves a ton of air and stays quiet. It does what Noctua says it does. It integrates perfectly with the ASUS Striker II Extreme Q-Fan mode.Though I do appreciate the exotic mounting options, I was not particularly impressed with the solution for wide (140mm) mounting. The mouting feels rather insecure despite the satisfying ruggedness of the fan itself. The documentation was rather lacking as well.On the other hand, consider that most desktops stay put; hence the mounting solutions are secure enough. Also, you should be able to figure out how to work with the thing given a few extra minutes despite the barely-there documentation.

Best compromise between Air-Flow and Low-Noise.
Best compromise between volume of air moved and quietness. However, the is one cavet. These units are best when where is a little bit of air-flow resistence, such as would occur when pushing air through a mesh grill. Without that, they will spin up to full speed...at which point they whine noticeably.I have two mounted at the top of my case, where they have to push through a mesh grill. They push more air compared to noise level than any fan I've tried. And I've tried quite a few.I also have two mounted on the side door. But in that case, there no mesh grill. And they fans spin up to full speed. And so to avoid the whine, I have them set to run a notch below top speed. Just a little. And it works.Of course, the color is puke awful, and unfortunately for those side fans, I can see them.Overall, including the CPU and PSU fans, I have 9 fans in my case. And the only fan I can really hear is the CPU fan. If I drop the RPM on that one, the case is almost dead quiet...at least by comparison. It's the standard 90mm Intel CPU fan for a I7. But to replace is requires I remove the motherboard, which at this point I won't do. Just not worth it.

Fills a practically non-existent market niche
I bought this to replace the slightly noisy 14cm fan that came with the case. This fan supposedly has mounting brackets to fit a standard 14cm fan location. Only they don't work.- They are small and don't provide much grip - MIGHT be adequate for an intake fan- The power cord gets in the way if trying to use the clips on the "other side" as an extraction fan as I was, and they practially fall off.The cases where you can fit a 14cm fan which are designed for a 12cm fan - well good luck finding one. An extra cm all around is a big ask. Most cases nowadays have the largest fan they can fit, so you won't find that clearance.I assume its up to the usual Noctua standard - which I use extensively and are normally worth 5 stars. This one isn't.Returning it.

Doesn't live up to the claims
This fan is mediocre - it is not particularly quiet and doesn't push much air. It also won't start at very low voltages. The Scythe Kazemaru 2 140mm x 25mm Case Fan- 1200RPM Medium Speed(SM1425SL12M) is half the price and performs much better.

it looks quite nice against a black interior somehow
I've wondered about Noctua fans in the past and thought that it wouldn't be that big of a deal when it comes to PC fan noise levels but I finally had to do something about my wife's computer and its noise level. Her motherboard didn't have quite adequate fan control so I purchased a fan controller and these Noctua fans and OMG! Turned up to 100% they are much more quiet than the stock corsair fans in a corsair air 540 case. I can totally see what the big deal is with Noctua, they are QUIET and also seem to produce at least 70% more airflow than the stock fans did in that case at any RPM. I thought the colors would clash but no, it looks quite nice against a black interior somehow... go figure.

Most Silent 140mm
Undoubtedly one of the most silent 140mm fans in the market.

These Noctua fans are like the buckleys of computer case fans.
They may look ugly but they work. Very quiet, which is mainly what I was looking for. Only issue I had was mounting them on the front of my case. They wouldn't really fit on my NZXT Phantom 410 because the rubber mounts don't go through the extra narrow holes (it uses different sized screws than the standard ones).

As good as it gets for a 140mm
As good as it gets for a 140mm. Too bad it's been discontinued. Fantastic mounting options and unreal build quality.
