Starry-eyed teenager Camilla Swanson (Allie MacDonald) wants to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a Broadway diva, but she's stuck working in the kitchen of a snobby performing arts camp. Determined to change her destiny, she sneaks in to audition for the summer showcase and lands a lead role in the play, but just as rehearsals begin, blood starts to spill, and Camilla soon finds herself terrified by the horror of musical theater. Starring musical theater veterans Meat Loaf (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) and Minnie Driver (The Phantom of the Opera) STAGE FRIGHT mixes SCREAM with GLEE in this genre-bending R-rated horror-musical from Jerome Sable, award-winning director of the celebrated short film THE LEGEND OF BEAVER DAM.

Cheesy Goodness 🧀
This horror movie-musical is corny in the best way. It’s High School Musical meets Phantom of the Opera meets Scream. Definitely give it a try and you’ll be singing all the songs before you know it.

Postmodern Slasher Flick
The poster on the trailer preview is what sold me on renting the movie. It is a note-perfect rendition of an 80's style slasher flick movie poster, from the heroine in profile to the disembodied giant knife in the foreground to the goofy tag-line. The movie itself is most definitely inspired by slasher heydey plots. If you've ever seen classic scream queen movies like Prom Night or Terror Train, you know the basic elements: someone important to the Final Girl got killed long ago and now someone else is out for revenge. Which visible member of the cast could it be? However, this is also a genre mash-up, being that this horror movie is also a full-on musical. It doesn't just use musical numbers as breaks from the narrative. The musical numbers are IN the narrative. I can see why some of the horror fans are disappointed, as aside from a cold open the actual horror part of this movie doesn't get underway until over halfway into the runtime. It's musical comedy for most of the first half of the movie. However, once the horror starts it's horror all the way to the end. One other interesting aspect of this being a mash-up and decidedly postmodern is that the Final Girl is considerably more complicated in character motivation than would have been permissible in the eighties. I agree with other reviewers that the heavy metal that sets the killer apart musically from the rest of the show is a surprising treat. Stay for the end credits, there is a hilarious coda written into the end credits music just to reward people who watch 'til the last frame.

So Much WASTED POTENTIAL
I gave it three stars cause it had SO MUCH POTENTIAL to be an epic well done rock musical but it fell flat on its butt. The killers bits were pretty much the only good music bits to it and were my favorite but there was not much of those so...it was mediocre and I'm salty about it.

funny, and good music
This is original, funny, and good music. The acting is good enough, the singing is great. If you like slasher films, musicals, and comedy, there is nothing else really to check out and this movie satisfies!!

I love it. The music was okay
This movie was ridiculous. I love it. The music was okay, but there were a couple of songs I really enjoyed. The sheer ridiculousness was my favorite part though. I show this movie to everyone who will watch.

Great music, great theatre
This film shows the extraordinary talents of Sable and Batalion. Great music, great theatre, great comedy and great fun! I can't imagine a more challenging blend of genres to attempt melding together. All things considered, it came together quite well. Worth watching.

This movie was off the charts!
I thought this movie was absolutely hilarious and most entertaining... I rate it five stars for its originality... With its dark humor and campy-ism (not a real word), this film has definitely surpassed any hesitation I may have had before the opening... Definitely a must-see!

Stage Fright
Horror comedies are a strange enough breed as it is but throw in musical numbers for good measure and you really are in bizarre territory. That's where we are with Stage Fright, a campy gory slasher film. When comedy mixes with horror the results are usually sub par. The likes of Dale versus Tucker are few and far between. Stage Fright is too campy to be fun and too cheesy to be funny, it doesn't quite find the right mix, but there are some enjoyable moments. The film finds its feet more when the killing starts and it focusses on the horror more than the comedy. Its a pleasingly gory affair although admittedly it is all rather cartoonish. The story is clichéd in the extreme but the killer is interesting and the kills are suitably elaborate. The songs are stagey and in themselves a little creepy.Stage Fright could have been a lot worse and for a silly 90 mins you can just about forgive its shortcomings.

If you like musical's and or horror movies
If you like musical's and or horror movies, well this combines both. The classical side and the headbanging of the music is awesome, right to the ending of the credits.Meatloaf plays a well scripted character as well as the rest of the cast. The innocence of Grease meets Phantom of the Opera.Loved it,,,

Low budget but fun
Enjoyed this. I don't like slash and bleed and the first time I watched I have to admit that my eyes shut each time. By the second time seeing I opened eyes and cringed. By the third time I could watch and critique the scenes! The singing with the campers and "Meatloaf" is great fun, I like musicals. (I was a extra in this and happy to see my scene was not cut!)

strange fright!
This is just very very weird. Unless you like very camp musicals and very odd singing leave this well alone. Feel like I was conned into buying this.
