12: 1 sphere, 1 hemisphere, 1 pyramid, 2 cylinders, 1 cone, 1 cube, 1 prism, 1 hexagonal prism, 1 octagonal prism, and 2 rectangular prisms. I think they are all shown in the picture.

Q: Is there a teaching guide in this or not?

There was no teaching guide in mine.

Q: Are they made entirely from non-toxic materials?

There is nothing on the container that states that it is non toxic. I took a quick look at the item on learningresources.com, but it also does not state that the item is non toxic. I would suggest going to their website and asking their customer service for clarification.

Q: Can you cut the shapes so that interior planes would be visible?

I have not cut them, but they are solid and made of very sturdy foam, so I would think that they would stand up to cutting pretty well. I don't think that scissors would do the trick because of the foam density, but maybe an exacto knife or some other kind of tool.
