A great account of crossing America on a stagecoach
The book is documented well with an almost scientific log of the journey and interesting stories. Interesting accounts of the early Mormons.

Sir Richard Burton Crossed Another "Holy City" Off His Bucket List
Sir Richard Burton's travels to Utah to study the peculiar institution of the Mormons (polygamy) is a classic. Burton is better known for his translation of one of the more scurrilous books of the period (1001 Arabian Nights) and his discovery of the source of the Nile River. Burton was an excellent observer and provides fascinating details of his travels and the subject of his journey. The book is crammed full of details of the people and places of note to an Englishman in the American West. Whether it is a stroll in the street of Great Salt Lake City or traveling the trail by Scott's Bluff in Nebraska, Burton's elegant prose put the reader in the middle of the action. This is a book that deserves rereading on occasion as details unnoticed in the first reading seem to appear. This book is must have for those with libraries on the West.
