The Shining [Import]

I hate reviews on Amazon for films. I mean I like reviews of films, I just don't look for them on Amazon. No, what I want is a produxt review. I wan't to know if the Blu Ray is any good or not. I don't care if you think The Shining is rubbish. I wouldn't be buying this thirty year old film if I didn't love it. Rant over. This Blu Ray is fantastic. If you love the film and have been subjected to the european version for these many years then I would recommend you getting this. It adds a lot of nice detail and fleshes out some scenes and details. This will work on Europenn blu ray players as it is region free. (I am reviewing the US blu ray by the way) It has all the same extras as the European version but for fanatics of the film you NEED to have this version. Wonderful film. Wonderful version.

This review relates to the US version of the film which is significantly longer than the UK release and addresses one of the main problems of the shorter version - Torrance starts off unstable and goes downhill at a great rate of knots. In the US version, we get more information about him and can empathise (to a degree) with hm and his problems before he is entangled in events at the Overlook Hotel. The blu ray picture is fantastic and very clear in 1.78:1 ratio. I found myself appreciating this film all over again and it certainly bears repeat viewings. Absolutely unmissable and one of Kubrick's finest achievements.

Classic horror / psychological thriller, looks surprisingly good in blu-ray considering it's age and darker visuals. I was glad to find this the extended US version, which adds some extra, interesting scenes here and there to flesh out the story more. Great cinematography, use of modern / contemporary classical music to enrich the disturbing, unpredictable nature of the film and of course a thrillingly, uninhibited performance by Jack Nicholson.

THE DEFINITIVE VERSION TO OWN - BLU RAY IMPORT This is the definitive version to own on blu ray. it's region free so plays on UK machines and bosts a rich detailed and sharp full widescreen 16:9 picture with excellent DTS HD Master 5.1 suround sound. But what makes this version so special is that its half an hour longer than the versions previously seen and released in the UK both theatrically and on blu ray/DVD. You now get a fuller back story of what "the shining" actually is and how Jack Nicholson's character is wound up in it. You also get more creepy scenes at the hotel and a whole sequence when Danny is visited by a doctor who asks him about his gift. If you're looking to buy this movie....buy this version

I read the book following its original release and have viewed the film on numerous occasions. There is some variance to the character development, emphasis and to the storyline, but regardless this has not detracted from my enjoyment. I purchased the DVD as I have been unable to locate the film on any of the streaming services available to me.

I like this film very much, I like the extended version better then the original. It had some great scenes in it. If you liked the original I think you should buy the extended version.

This is the Region free US import 144 min version. Seen by some as requiring the editing down that Kubrick finally decided on after negative previews, it is still well worth adding to your collection for a longer version of the story. Includes the same excellent special features found on the UK release.

i bought the US import, it's a great conversion to BluRay, the start where the credits roll - you know the bit i'm talking about! - wow! Extra scenes in this US import don't make the film any worse or any better in my opinion and Vivienne Kubrick's behind the scene docco is the best i've seen in terms of what it might be like to make a movie
