Hey, they still make these! Whoa, where'd that price come from?
I've used Staticmaster brushes in darkrooms for my entire photographic career. Given the current price, I paused before getting a refill a couple weeks ago. However, I have a lot of 35mm slides to scan, and this will save enough time to make it worthwhile.I'm curious about the price, I wonder if reactor time has gotten more expensive due to vague terrorist threats. Perhaps the higher price leads to smaller production runs, and that causes still higher prices. The polonium has a halflife of just 139 days, so you really can't get much more than one year before the expiration date comes up.

Works okay...
You really have to use this with diligence to remove 95% of the dust. It's incredibly over priced. When I originally bought the brush years ago the refills were under $5. I can't imagine how they justify the current price. Since I have no fewer than 3000 negatives and slides to scan I went ahead and paid the stiffer price.

Best antistatic brush
StaticMaster brushes are relatively expensive due to the need for annual replacement of the radioactive component. But they are outstanding for critical applications such as preparing film for scanning.

Five Stars
It's working like expected.

nearly 300% price increase?!
The product works well, but within the last 12-15 months, its price skyrocketed from about $18.95 to $54.95 !!What the heck?At the $55 price, it's no longer a good value -- why I only gave it 3 stars.I will seek alternative solutions.

Absolutely loved my 1st one...BUT A 150% INCREACE IN PRICE!!!!!
I bought my Static Master 1C200 several years ago, and it is way overdue for replacement. The anti-static properties ceased to do the magic on my camera lenses quite some time ago. There is a replaceable cartridge with radioactive Polonium. You could actually see dust particles be attracted to the camel hair brush when using it to clean a dusty lens. But now the brush acts no different than a normal brush. I guess the Polonium has a VERY short half life.So I come to Amazon to look for a new brush or replacement cartridge and about fell over in my chair at the price increase. These brushes WERE selling for around $18.00 - $20.00 just a few years ago. But, now I find that they are selling for $90.00 plus S&H or $60.00 just for the replacement cartridge? You're telling me that the price is effectively $30.00 just for the plastic handled camel hair brush! While I loved mine when it worked, but they are supposed to be replaced or have the cartridge replaced about once a year. $20.00 to $25.00 I can handle, BUT $90.00!!!!This brush appears to be made by Amstat Industries, Inc. I hope they are diversifying there product line, because they will not be selling many more of these at this price level.I have only found a few still available, so maybe they are already out of production. Go figure.

Total price gouging!
The first Staticmaster I ever bought was $9.95 and refill cartridges were $4.95. When refills hit $19.95 I quit. Now at $80.00 the company can go bankrupt for all I care. I will never buy another one! There are many less expensive alternatives that are just as good. Goodbye Staticmaster!
