Mixed Feelings
By Diane Barnes, RN, author of The Book on Quitting Smoking The author's overall premise is that if you eliminate one cigarette per day, you will quit smoking. That definitely would work, but it is easier said than done.There are aspects of the book that I do agree with wholeheartedly. It encourages the reader to focus on all the reasons to banish cigarettes from their life and to be vigilant for all the lame rationalizations that smokers use to avoid doing so.This method requires a fair amount of writing. That works well for many people, but not all. Some folks find that it helps them stay on track. Others find that it makes the process too difficult.No type of "cutting back" method ever worked for me. It made each cigarette all the more important and I became obsessed with smoking more than ever. Since it can be such a mindless habit, whatever strategies were used to help me cut back soon fell by the wayside.Would I recommend that you buy this book? If you have tried cutting back before and found it to be torturous, then this book is not for you. But if you don't mind some written work and would view each cigarette eliminated from your day as a victory, then this book would be an ideal guide for you to have.

HELPS YOU QUIT ANYTHING
I used this book years ago to quit smoking (successfully now, for 20+ years). Besides the very good advice about how to quit smoking, I especially like the pages in the back where you list your reasons for quitting. You can use this technique for quitting anything, so this book is very handy as a diet book if you want to lose weight. Just keep going back to your list of reasons for losing weight, e.g. health, blood pressure, get into small size jeans, etc. , and you will find it easier to modify your behaviour. The book is small enough to carry in your pocket, like a pack of cigs. Keep re-reading page 109, and your list of reasons, and it will help you quit any bad habits you truly want to change.

Really like the lack of fluff in this little book
Really like the lack of fluff in this little book, love that it is the exact size as a pack of cigarettes and just a straightforward approach to intelligently quitting, bought three more and sent to friends who need to quit.

If you have a tv you don't need this little (literally) book, it has no special information that will shed any light on this issue, you have heard the contents of this already. Don't bother....

feeling like I don't want this addiction anymore
It's been 11 yrs. ago I quit,, after seeing a couple of people with smoking related illnesses, feeling like I don't want this addiction anymore, looking forward to retiring with NO aliments, drugs or doctor visits, I got the patch, chewed nicotine gum and READ this book! As I read the book, it made sense and it truly fit with my goals... with a lot of praying, begging and determination, I quit within 2 weeks. This book makes the reality of smoking "not smart" and that you can't reason away. Good Luck!
