Elk ELK-930 Doorbell and Phone Ring Detector

Works perfectly with standard door bells. Does not work well with “smart” doorbells.

If you're using this to detect voltage drop when your bell rings, look at other solutions. This is not reliable. The voltage drop occurs when infra-red comes on on when bell has increased activity (system update?), etc.I've had way too many false ring being detected. To maintain my peace of mind, into the bin it goes ......

It works. My only complaint is the door bell has to be pressed for about 1 second or longer to work. If a quick press it doesn't register, which is what some people tend to do, especially the delivery companies who drop packages at the door and hit the doorbell fast and run away.

Was looking for a solution that would detect when the doorbell rang and then send a contact closure to a home automation device. In my case I integrated this with a ZigBee Wireless Contact Relay from CardAccess. Installation was very easy. Not sure why they sell it as three separate modules (all of which work independently from each other)--would have preferred just one module with a cheaper price. Perhaps I'll find a use one day for the other two modules.

As a doorbell detector circuit, this is the only such circuit I've seen that is available. I've been using these for over a decade, and they work quite nicely. I wired this in series with the doorbell circuit, and then connected a Fortrezz MimoLite Z-Wave relay input to sense when someone presses the doorbell.

It was simple to incorporate into my Elk M1 Gold. The installation was painless and I've tested the doorbell a dozen times and has worked 100% perfectly during each test.

Works exactly as expected. Be sure to pick up the relay timer that most other people are buying if you are trying to trigger something that is kind of slow.
