Possibly hard steel - Definitely soft plastic
I purchased these primarily for the following advertised reasons:The Good (the hard sell):-----------1) S2 steel fabrication (far more hardwearing than the metals other hex key sets are made of).2) A good selection of sizes for both Imperial and Metric hex keys.3) They come in a compact and practical storage holder for each set.4) Added torque T-handle for adding force when loading and unloading the fasteners. The Not So Good (the reality):-----------1) It's unfortunate that only the Imperial hex keys (dark brown) have the S2 stamper. Neither the metric hex or the torx set have any markings other than size stamp. This is not to say they aren't S2 steel, but it leaves the element of doubt.2) The storage holders are inferior and impractical. Straight out of the box, 1 or 2 of the keys from EACH set, instantly drop out if turned upside down. And because the hex keys are (by definition) hexagonal, most of the larger keys cannot be turned sideways inside the holder. If you do force the keys sideways inside the holder, you will only wear away the plastic inside, resulting in even more keys being loose and falling out. Therefore, this means if you want for example; the No.6 hex key, you have to remove No.7,8,9 and 10 to get the No.6 out. This is not practical. The only way to avoid this issue with the hex keys is to insert them at an angle so that each one can be removed independently. A bit bulky for storage. However, after just a few removal and inserts, the bigger keys are also falling out if turned upside down. I can only imagine it won't be long before the rest of the keys follow suit. The Torx keys have a cylindrical shaft and therefore can be spun sideways to access the smaller sizes in each tier. Some are tight, others not so much.... you just have to be careful not turn the set upside down - as mentioned one key already falls out!3) If you choose to overlook the impracticality of the keys (short arm) siting on top of each other (in the compact conventional storage way), the Metric Hex set has the lower tier of the plastic too high - meaning that the keys of the lower tier cover up the size lettering on the plastic for the higher tier. If none of the other points bother you, then I can't imagine this is going to be a deal breaker - just a bad design flaw.4) The very first real use of the T-handle (real use i.e; Lets remove a bolt! as opposed to just holding it in your hand and saying "oh look isn't this pretty and useful" observational review) ...resulted in the plastic splitting and the key slipping. This was not excessive force. That particular hole slot is now useless. They "might" have made the keys from one of the tougher metals, but they've used one of the cheaper and soft plastics for the handle. T-handle does NOT "provides extra comfort and meets your need for high torque"! Mr T (a.k.a B.A. Baracus from the A-Team) would not have been impressed. Conclusion:I look forward to the day of having a drawer full of loose hex keys... just hope they will still be a full set!

Great, hard-wearing tools!
I was torn between buying this set and a cheaper one but opted for this one becuase of the S2 steel which I know from being a materials scientist is tempered and harder than vanadium chrome steel and should have better longevity... (A wise man once told me to always buy the best tools that you can afford and you'll only buy once!). I have used the tools for machine making and bike/car fixing thus far and have had no deformation of the tips even after getting at a couple rusty bolts which have plastically deformed my previous 5mm Allen key! The set included a red handle for when you really need the torque, I have not used this much but it seems to work alright. Would have been nice to include a pouch or something to keep the tools in but I'm just nitpicking now and the cardboard box supplied works fine! I recommend both the seller who shipped fast and the tools which should last a lifetime.

Heavy, but comprehensive
A great set of Hex keys, in both metric and imperial sizes and also a set of Torx. The keys are colour coded to ensure all the metric ones stay together and so on, which is very useful and very clever, and they're strong and robust which is why they are heavy. Take the set you need to the job, rather than the whole lot.The handle works exactly as it should. You'll probably only use this handle for particularly tough jobs, but you have the option

Heavy and sturdy 💪🏻
1.4 kg in total, very heavy and sturdy hex keys 🔑 which is going to suits pretty much all hex screws 👍🏻 Easy to use, great tools to have inside my tools 🧰 box. Pretty easy to clean 🧼 if you’d like to clean them like me😂
