A well-engineered kitchen gadget that lives up to its name "Good Grips".
I've always gone to this company when I'm needing a(nother) can opener or kitchen gadget. I got hooked on youtube's Epicurious series on "Kitchen gadgets reviewed by a design expert" and I had to find out more about the host, Dan Formosa. Come to find out, he worked with OXO and is a renowned expert on product design, and is in demand through his projects and lectures. He and his team, or whoever he worked with, designed some of the most well-thought out, easy to use products. They're intuitive, innovative, and decidedly superior and I have a kitchen full of OXO products. Here's an example: The sliding covers can be opened at either end, and don't automatically assign a "direction," which is handy. Plus, they snap reassuringly into place and they don't allow leaks. Another is the shape of the cubes: They're not square but rectangular, which allows for the glass or container to be filled but not overfilled. And, they are rounded at the bottom, which allows you to slide the cube out with one finger from both directions. The trays stack beautifully and are good space savers, helpful in my sometimes overstuffed freezer. In short, who would have thought a simple unassuming little item like an ice cube tray could be so beautifully well thought out and geared for human use? I've fought ice cube trays for years, having to run hot water on them and banging, wrenching, and twisting trays and disliking what I had to do just to get some ice. I haven't got a fancy fridge that delivers ice, and these little easy-to-use trays are the next best thing. Very highly recommended! Get 'em, try 'em, fall in love....

Excellent quality, design, and function!
Easy to fill, freeze, and empty! Love the sliding cover which protects the tray from spilling as well as keeping the frozen cubes clean. I take time to level the water by tilting the tray and not overfilling it. The trip to the freezer hasn't left a water trail yet! :) A twist and a nudge releases the cubes. Well designed with the sliding cover and the rounded bottom for each cube. Cost a bit more, but well worth it! I highly recommend this double tray pack.

Pretty decent, but TOO WIDE! Doesn't easily fit in my freezer door
I bought these because I wanted ice cube trays with lids. I don't use ice too often, and when I do, a third or more of the ice has often evaporated since I last used it. This has lids, and the way they slide on and off seems durable -- I don't need to worry about a hinge wearing out or a plastic tab that snaps on cracking off. But I'm taking off a star because they're too wide! They're *really* wide, and just wide enough that they don't fit in my freezer door. I thought the whole point of a freezer door was to hold ice cube trays and pints of ice cream. But my freezer door shelves are 5.5" deep, and this is 5.6" wide. It doesn't fit! What the *heck*, OXO? I've got a super-standard Frigidaire fridge/freezer. OXO should be making sure this fits in standard freezer doors, and they're not. So now I have to take up valuable space from my main, tall freezer shelves instead. As for the crescent shape of the ice cubes, I'm not entirely sold. The problem is that when you push on one end, they don't usually release from the plastic immediately. (And you can't "crack" the whole tray while the lid is on.) So you often have to keep increasing pressure to release it, and then when you do the whole ice cube flies up in the air and then lands on the counter or floor! Finally, there's no clear line to fill the water to. If you fill each ice cube compartment entirely, the water expands and the ice sticks to the lid. So you have to be careful to under-fill it, but there's no indication of what the right amount is. (This isn't a problem in regular trays without a lid.) So overall I think this ice cube tray is headed in the right direction, and I like the lid a lot. But here's how OXO should improve it: - Make it narrower so it fits in standard freezer doors! - Which means making the ice cubes make compact -- more cube-like than sliver-like. I think it's fine for the bottom to be rounded, but make it a full half-circle rather than a sliver. This way the tray is taller, rather than extra-wide - And provide a super-clear fill line for the cubes

Happily replacing my covered Joie trays
These ice cube trays with lids, featuring easy to remove cubes, deliver on ALL the promises. I had been using Joie brand lidded ice cube trays and found it annoying that rarely did a full cube come out of the tray. Ive only used these Oxo trays for one round of ice making so far but 100% of cubes came out whole and oh so easy to remove. One aspect with the Oxo tray’s cubes is that you’d think you should be able to press on either end of the cube and have the opposite end “pop up”. In my limited use thus far, you must press on one side (usually the outer edge) for the cubes to slide up the other side. Please note that this is likely caused by user error (i.e. maybe i over-filled the tray or something). YMMV. The Oxo lids do not attach as tightly as the Joie trays’ lids, so you couldnt call these Oxo trays “spill proof” but so far the lids meet my expectations. I think Oxo offers a “spill proof” version, but the cost of those led me to a little self-chuckle, “Uffda! For one ice cube tray?”. I paid $10.xx for two trays and two lids in late Feb. or early March 2024. P.S. Although not an “expensive” purchase, per se, it’s not lost on me that I’m fortunate to 1) have the oppotunity to buy new ice cube trays simply because my “like-new” existing Joie trays annoyed me (I will wash and donate them); and 2) have the time to write an honest review about something as inconsequestial as ice cube trays. 🙃

These sure seem like perfect trays that produce perfect ice in a perfectly easy way!
There is not a better ice tray system out there. I can’t believe the complaints... “the lid sticks” ... “the plastic breaks” ... “I can’t twist them to release the ice.” I’m not finding anything like that when using these trays – this is a good set of ice trays thoughtfully made. If your lid is sticking then fill it like it’s meant to be filled.... not to the very top. Remember ice enlarges as it freezes, so leave a little room. Too much water may also be why some have problems removing the lid and/or twisting the tray. Again, I had no such trouble whatsoever... they twist pretty much like every other ice tray I’ve owned. I let the tray sit on the counter while I do other preparations and in just those few minutes the ice slides out just like they say... very convenient, and a nice shape to the ice itself – I think you can possibly get a bit more ice in the glass with this shape. These sure seem like perfect trays that produce perfect ice in a perfectly easy way! EDIT: bumped them to 5-star after using them for awhile. We have an ice maker in the fridge that we’ve detached due to leaks and blocking up. These trays are much better for things like homemade iced vanilla latte because the cubes don’t splinter and fracture so they last longer. I’d assume the same for mixed drinks. [*mini edit*] I ended up removing the entire ice-making feature from our freezer and now have SO MUCH MORE SPACE, which is made possible by these simple trays, which are far preferable to breaking automated ice that has been sitting for months in your freezer. If you’re a heavy ice user, I’d definitely consider buying four. I bought two, and they empty quickly (you can get three tall double-shot iced lattes out of two trays). But they are so easy to stack and find room for with the kids and all... this is definitely a purchase I’m thrilled about. Edit: We've bought two more, and have given four to friends after they saw and tried them at our place. Totally satisfied.

Excellent Ice Trays
I really like the design of these OXO Ice Trays. Perfect size and shape for ice cubes. I love the covers that come with it. They protect ice and make it easy to stack. Ice is easily removed by warming up the bottom of the tray. Pushing the ice to slide out for single cubes or emptying the full try is so simple. Very easy to clean, too. Only issue is that the water spills out (very easily) of the molds after filling and moving to freezer. This will always end up spilling water on floor, the freezer and freezing the lids to the tray, itself. Not a difficult problem, but annoying. Still, I'll definitely recommend these ice trays.

Ice is nice, Lids are not
Makes good, nicely shaped & sized ice cubes. Ice is released with minimal effort. Unfortunately, the lids are extremely difficult to get on and the trays will not stack without the lids. Would be 5 star if they could be used without the lids.

Great find!
These trays are awesome. I love the sliding lid and a few twists and the ice slides right out. Definitely worth the money!
