Q: if i take the 12v away will it return to the same mode as before when i reapply power

Yes, if you remove power and then add power back, it returns to the same mode. I set mine to array of specific colors, and would power down using a master breaker and then when I turned the breaker back on they would all return to the colors I had last set them at.

Q: Can this controller make one led strip purple and the other strip yellow? Also is this controller water resistant?

Hi, they can't be controlled separated. The controller is non-waterproof.

Q: Has anyone gotten the 3.5mm input to work on this controller? Microphone works okay, but I cannot get it to use the stereo input instead

I might do a little review of this product but I figured it out. I just bought it few days ago and had the same issue. I would hook up my 3.5mm to the controller but when the music was low and someone talked or a loud noise (not the music) happened the controller mic still picked up the sound and the lights would change to it. I figured it out. The 3.5mm Y aux cable (included) goes directly in the controller then the 3.5mm extension aux cable (included) goes to either your music device, phone, mp3, and then you need another 3.5mm aux cable (not included) to the stereo to which the music will be playing out of the speakers. Testing if it works, turn the speakers low or off and still have the music play through the music device and the lights should still be dancing to the beat of the music. Also with this setup just turn the music off from your music device and make LOUD NOISES to see if the mic picks up the sound and lights dance or not, it should not. I know I'm 7 months late to this question but better late than never.

Q: Just received my controller and there are no instructions included on how to hook up the controller to play the LED’s off the beat of the music. help?

Fine a 12v source, mine was a small light I control by a switch. Then find a 4 wire speaker wire, small gage and run it to your LED light, it also has to be a 4 wire led to make it work correctly.
