Looks the part, overall pleased with a few caveats
I wanted this as a gift for grandparents, so for me it was more important that the thing actually looked like a picture frame (rather than a mini-monitor) and didn't require or provide a range of fabulous internet-connected touch-enabled cloud nonsense.Overall I cannot fault the look of the thing, the frame is actual wood (as opposed to plastic looking like wood). The screen has a nice surround (can't remember what that is called in actual picture fames) and it is covered by glass. Basically it's a picture fame. The screen quality is good with a good viewing angle and to be honest for the harder of seeing it will probably be indistinguishable from an actual (quality printed) picture, especially at the kind of distance most people will be from a picture. The frame does display pictures and play videos, just not simultaneously. It's either, or. For my purposes I was not worried about video as I imagine the sound would be rubbish and videos (not shot by Steven Spielberg) would really be small and rubbishy at any distance. Unless you were holding the frame like a tablet to view videos then all you going to see is small pin-pricks scampering around the screen. None of which is helped by the standard shonky quality of home-made videos. My choice against video (other than) sound is not a quality one, merely aesthetics.Naturally, to make the best of the frame you need to carefully curate (i.e. properly size your pictures). This is harder/more time-consuming than you might think for anything other than a handful of images. This is nothing to do with the frame merely recognition that if you don't want black borders around your pictures you need to size them properly for the (odd?) 1280x800 resolution. The main negatives I have about the frame and the reason I took a star off is that it's kind of an orphan product. If you go to the Kodak website and try to get any sort of technical information (manuals, firmware updates) all it does is redirect you to a useless website (maxtdigital.com). When I first got the frame this website was non-existent (literally non-resolvable in DNS) for several days. Now that it appears to be back it is simply full of marketing drivel and no actual practical information (like firmware updates). The biggest issue I think is the software on the frame, it is a bit rubbish at handling images. It appears to be very finicky and not good at scaling. When I simply loaded a bunch of JPGs taken with various phones, despite the images working fine on any other device, the frame made such a mess of them that I thought it was faulty. The images had banding on them and occasionally (despite using the "original size" setting in the photo settings) it still insisted on scaling images which resulted in appalling blocky (and banded) images.I had to rescale all my images to the "odd" 1280x800 resolution (or rather no more than 1280x800 to keep the aspect ratio) for the images to actually work. Ensuring the maximum size of any image is 1280x800 means the frame does not use it's awful scaling routines and pictures look great. It's not a major hassle to do that as it is only a small part of the whole curation process. All in all, I am pleased with this and would recommend it if you are looking for a digital photo frame that actually looks like it is a (traditional) picture frame.

Badly painted frame turned out to be a special design effect
Bought it as a present for my wife thinking that a wooden frame, as advertised, would add quality to the look of the frame. The box arrived sealed, definitely brand new, but the look of it was quite poor. The frame was coloured with a very thin layer of paint, which went off all around on the edges, so you can see the red colour coming through. I saw a few other reviews with a similar problem, so I cannot be sure that it was a coincidence. Sending it back and buying a different brand. Don’t waste your time.UPDATE: After posting the original review I was contacted by the seller who kindly explained to me that the frame colour is not pure black but designed by a combination of black and red processes. This process is characterised by the fact that the red colour is irregularly translucent, which is not a loss of paint. The seller was very polite, apologetic, and pleasant to communicate with. Although this frame design is not my cup of tea, probably someone would find it interesting. I changed the rating from 1 to 3 stars for the customer service and personal approach.

Software doesn’t work - won’t display photos
Bought 2 of these. Had the same issues with both; they don’t reliably read photos to display internally or on cards etc. the first displayed photos happily for about 8 months then just couldn’t read them any more (same card, same photos, still readable on Mac and windows). The second had the same issue from the outset so I returned it.This is not an issue with my photos, the SD card or the device(s) used to put the photos on the card. It’s just a fault with the OS in the photo frame. When it did work, the OS felt like the early 90s; very, very laggy to interact with. Great hardware. Awful software.

Display isn't amazing
Blue sky looks a bit stripey across the display which isn't amazing but pretty good for the money
