The Inequality Reader: Contemporary and Foundational Readings in Race, Class, and Gender

This book has a lot of great journal articles/book chapters about the subject of inequality (focus on race, gender, class as title states) Some of it is foundational theory, some of it is research based, some of it puts forward ideas about inequality and there are arguments from both sides about what causes inequality and what we should do about it. Fascinating book and I highly recommend reading it even if it's just for your personal use! I had to read it for a class and am so glad I was introduced to it.

I am using this for school and so I haven't read everything, but many of these pieces I believe EVERYONE should read. When I read "Missing Class" and "Nickel and Dimed," I was saying "This is me! This is so and so!" Yes, there are pieces that are tough to get thru, but others are in today's language and are soooo relevant. I'm glad I'm having to read it for school :)

A really great break down of race, gender and class through the lens of sociology.

The book is useable but the advertisement was very deceptive. There was no notification or warning that the book had been subjected to water damage.This is something I felt should have been disclosed. I myself will not place and order with this particular company again.

I ordered this book for a Sociology class and I love it! The sections in the reader are short and very interesting!!

Pretty good condition, all in one piece, a few written annotations but not excessive.

Thought i was buying a "like used" book. Looks pretty worn out and discolored.

I did not seek this book out; I had to read this for a class. However, I quite enjoyed it. It is a collection of short articles (most less than 15 pages) but they are easy to read and understand, compared to the countless scholarly articles and books I've had to read as a college student in the last five years. I found this book to be quite thought provoking on various situations in America. I know that it certainly made me reflect on my own life and circumstances that I grew up, but also made me think a lot and understand better my own mother and the social positions and situations she has gone through in her life. Reading this as an adult has definitely made me reflect and understand myself and my position in society in a much more in-depth sociological context.
