My Spouse Loves I Chose This!
We now have used this at least a dozen times. We love that the rice pot is steel and the rice cooker is designed for simplicity. We just wanted one that was a sufficient size to have extra cooked rice in the refrigerator for a few more days, for the 2 of us. Also, we wanted an automatic shutoff which it has. We love brown rice which when cooked to the "right texture" is so flavorful even before adding anything. My wife has been gluten free since a child, by necessity. Out of respect to her, at least after our daughter moved out at the start of college 15 years ago, I have become "gluten free" in my eating habits at home and learned to love it with brown rice and a certain local bakery's excellent gluten free bread. I am so glad I did not follow thru on buying a more complicated rice cooker even though some offered more options then just cooking brown rice.

Good cooker
It is a little bit smaller than I thought. Anyway, I have been using it for quite a while. So far so good. No problem. I highly recommend it. It is not easy to clean if you don't know how to cook. After cooking, switch it off and leave it cool for a while, then the rice won't be too sticky to the cooker. Don't keep it in warm state or the rice will stick to cooker. To wash it, you have to soak it with water for a little while before you clean it. Don't use metallic brush to clean it else you will damage it.

Great rice cooker. Broken lid.
We love our rice cooker. We’ve used it for years. Today the lid shattered when it was set down after use. Is there a way to replace it?

LOVE IT!!! GOOD CHOICE!!!!
I agonized over what should be a simple purchase. I had my last rice cooker for 10 years, but I wanted stainless, so that limited my choices. Then there was price. I make rice and quinoa maybe once a week, so how much is too much for a rice cooker?! This is the perfect compromise. Good reviews, not huge in size, so not a storage hassle. It doesn't have the timer and delayed start that my last one had, but I never used those features anyway. I have NO trouble with water splashing out through the steam hole, but I rarely make more than 2 cups of uncooked rice or quinoa. I had to add more water to brown rice the first time that I used it, but I just added a little more water and turned it back on. I recommend spraying the bottom with cooking spray, and not letting residual rice and starch dry on it- so do yourself a favor and put some water in it while you're eating, but honestly, cleanup has been a scrub-free snap!

Great
After seeing the other reviews I was a little nervous when it started smoking when I first turned it on but i let it go and it worked out whatever was burning. This was my third brand looking for a keep warm that worked properly. The first was way too low to be safe the second was way too hot and would burn food. This one when left on all day full of water happened to measure at 152 degrees. That to me is about as cool as you can get to not burn food and still be in the proper food safe range. Amazing how many rice cookers fail at this function. Hopefully it lasts. Also glad it's stainless and not non stick

Burnt up after 3 months. Can't reach customer service.
It was working fine for 3 months, then one day it just burnt up. I smelled some electrical burn 5 minutes after I started it. So I turned it off immediately, waited for it to cool down. I checked that there was no water in the outer pot. I tried plugging it back but couldn't get it to work at all. I am Asian and I know how to use rice cookers. I only used it for making rice, nothing else.Ok, I might got a defect one but the customer service is not good either. This is obviously still under warranty. I emailed Oyama customer service using the email address I found on their website. It has been over a week and there is no response from them at all. I am very disappointed. I read the good reviews on Amazon and made the decision to spend a little more on which appeared to be a decent product. I am now using our old rice cooker that we paid half the price and has been working for years.Update: Impossible to reach the manufacturer. I called all the numbers I could find on their website, non of them worked.

Good rice cooker without the toxic nonstick inner pot.
Liked that this rice cooker uses a stainless steel inner pot instead of the usual unhealthy nonstick aluminum inner pot that eventually looses its coating into your rice. I just unplug the cooker within 15-30 mins. once the rice is done so that the rice doesn’t harden on the bottom and sides of the pot making it easier to clean. Soaking the pot overnight can help immensely too. I haven’t encountered any problems with this rice cooker, it works like a regular rice cooker. It comes with a stainless steel steamer tray which I use to steam potatoes, veggies, fish, and tofu awhile the rice is cooking. I’m happy with my purchase because this is an alternative to eating rice with toxic materials leaching from the nonstick pots. Been using it for about 6 months, no issues with it.

UPDATE: Burnt up after a few weeks - customer service honored warranty and replaced
This is an update and a rating change from 1 star to 3. Reached customer service at George Roe <[email protected]> . They requested photos, which I provided. Sent me a replacement quickly. They replaced the burned out base, and inner pot, not the rest. So, luckily I still had the other parts from the original (lid, steam basket, measuring cup). Changed the rating due to responsive customer service. Hopefully this newer one will last a bit longer. Original review is below:Really like it for a couple months, but it stopped working this week Dec. 2019. Purchased in Sept. 2019. Looked at the outer pot and it had burnt up. Too late to return so will see if I can get anything from the manufacturer since it's under warranty. Sounds like that could be a challenge though. I carefully read review before I purchase, but seems to be a lot of complaints now.
