Elevator Troubleshooting & Repair: A Technician’s Certification Study Guide

Not really an introduction to elevators
I like to buy a textbook when I want an overview of a subject, in order to understand better what the pros are doing. We've been having elevator problems in our building, and I wanted to be in a position to understand the repairs that have been tried. Judging from the blurb and reviews, this seemed like a suitable book. But it isn't an introduction to elevators. Rather, it's more like scattered stuff that the author feels an elevator technician should know.

If you are an elevator mechanic, this book is not for you
I purchased this book in hopes of learning new/advanced troubleshooting techniques. This book does not provide that, instead it regurgitates ASME 17.1 and NEC 620 requirements for elevators and describes how to use multimeters and oscilloscopes. I sincerely doubt the author has seen the inside of a hoistway.
