Review: This book is very oh woe me my life is very hard.. Well the author made her own life much more difficult by her own choices.. SPOILER ALERT She buys a house in a rough neighbourhood (she won by a lottery system and put her name down for a house she hadn’t seen..) and complains. Right on. Complains about her toxic relationships, but willingly goes back to a guy just to have a baby with him? I’m sorry I don’t see why this book is highly rated. She obviously went through a hard time and has found herself but I didn’t really like this writer by the end of this memoir Review: This book was easy to find and was delivered as promised. This book was required reading for a college class. I personally did not like the author writting style, topic and political agenda.

This book is well written, and provides the reader with a powerful portrait of the life of the author. Strong themes of the tragedy and resolve of Reyna and her family on their immigration journey. An easy yet compelling read that reveals an individual’s struggles and triumphs as she pursues her own dreams. I enjoyed this book.

This book is the sequel to "The Distance Between Us" by Reyna Grande so I decided to buy it to hear the rest of Reyna's story. In this sequel, Reyna tells her story as a first-generation college student, meeting her husband, and starting a family. Her feeling and thoughts are presented throughout the book in is a raw and pure form that makes it difficult to put the book down. Reyna is an example that despite all the challenges that life throws at you, with persistence and faith in yourself, your dreams can come true! I would recommend to anyone who wants an insight into what is life for immigrants. Also, it is a great read for those who enjoy reading Chicano/a books!

So - This book is not bad, nor is it all that fantastical. 2.5/5 Stars (If I could). I found that the author had a lot of capability and writing capacity; however, I found her put certain topics or issues within her life to come off in undertones toward her perceptions. There were quite a few times within this book that displayed her callous attitude toward her over-generalizations of Americans, or rather "white people" within this book, that she touched-on. Although having your own perceptions about life is not wrong, the point of this book was to show her struggles and issues going through her young-adult years in life. She explains her struggles, and how she came into this wonderful country as an illegal immigrant. Like her, I am an immigrant to America - however, it seemed to really resonate within the book how she perceived most people differently from how she sees her people, back home, and those who are hispanic and growing up in America. Again, this is not an issue to feel these ways, as it is instinctual - the problem therein lies with the fact that she is displaying the same type(s) of emotional-thinking that she believes others view her as; it eventually comes off as somewhat a racist-undertone, and generally redundant thinking towards progressing forward. Had it not been for those variety of stances and comments within her book, I would not have lost total-immersion, while reading; it was somewhat jarring to read those types of viewpoints, and not be pulled away from the actual content to critically-engage in what other ways she could have truly meant it (attempts to justify, in my mind.) Overall - The book is certainly read-able, albeit has its ups-and-downs, and shows the struggles of your average American (Yes - American), and just how you can truly make-up your own destiny within this country, and eventually getting to have your dreams come true, if you try hard enough; in her case - it was writing novels, which she clearly has made possible! I wish I could have given this book more stars, but alas, the problems of the book were too obnoxious to want to finish it with minimal-effort of forcing myself. I'm trying to be objective, though and I would say that she has an eloquent way of putting her story together. I just wish that it could have been more consistent, in some manners of speaking. Overall, I'd probably give it a 2.5/5 stars, but that is simply not a feature from Amazon. Hopefully her next book shows more promise and technique, as she's clearly at the point of intermediate-level writing. I hope this helps those who are considering buy, and need another voice to help them decide on worth-value! Take care and stay safe out there.
