My trees love this item.
Is great for thirsty small trees in Florida. They get a great soaking.

Hope for Sick Redwoods
I am trying these out in an attempt to save my Redwood trees from the drought. I think it is a good idea to have these drip on my trees for at least 6 hours out of each day. Then I have been filling them up early the next morning to drop another 6 hours. I have sometimes filled them up twice in the same day but that is a lot of filling. It only takes a few minutes to fill up each one, though. I have purchased several for my trees. They are not able to fit around my tree trunks as the trunks are too large so I have them placed next to the trucnks. For this use they did not need to have the slits in them.It would be nice to have a product that was just a plane cirlce for these larger trees but I think these will work fine. You just turn on the hose and squirt the water directly into the large holes, wait a few minutes until they are full and close the rubber cap, that's all you have to do. There are two valves on the bottom of each one that let the water out slowly so that it can soak deeply into the ground. It will take months to really know if they are helping the trees but they do let the water drip out as advertized and I am hopeful that they will help. You can see how brown my trees are in my photos.I belong to the Amazon review trader club and as such I receive a discount on some products such as this so that I can try them out and share my experiences with you as potential buyers. I do my best to give them a good trial and to share my honest opinions as well as to tell you how I used the products. I hope this has been helpful for you. Feel free to "like" it if it is.

Works great!
I've bought several models that work well and my trees are healthy despite drought. This model works well for the price. One drawback is that I'm on a well and noticed the plugs gradually became blocked and the bags would not empty. Evidently there's build up and the tiny holes at the end of the drip tubes either needed to be cut or removed. I took a pair of pliers and was able to pull the tips off so the water dribbled out more quickly from the larger openings. The bags still fill up and dribble slowly enough to do the job of hydrating the roots just fine, so I've done this procedure every year for several years with each model of bag. They do eventually become brittle after 2 or 3 seasons and split at the seam but the investment has paid off with healthy fast growth that would not be the case otherwise in our high desert climate.

Did not work for me at all
I recently planted several 8 foot Norway Spruce trees in my yard and the garden center who installed them said to trickle feed them. I thought these rings would be a good option but they did not work out at all for me and I can only see them working in ideal conditions where the ground is completely flat and you have full unobstructed access to the base of the tree. The Spruces we planted are easily 6 feet in diameter at the base, and being conifers, of course they have long branches with long needles low to the ground. It was literally impossible to get the ring around the base of the tree without kinks and twists that prevented it from filling up. Also, the ground we planted on was not flat and had a slight slope to it. So when I tried to fill the ring, as soon as the water level equaled that of the slope, the water started pouring out of the fill hole instead of filling the rest of the kinked and twisted ring. I got the ring about half way filled (the side that wasn't all twisted) and tried to put the plug into the fill hole and it was nearly impossible to get the plug back in. Trying to do so resulted in half the water I just put in spilling out from the pressure I needed to apply and the fact that the ground is slightly sloped. Maybe these would work for deciduous trees where there are no branches at the base, and the ground is completely flat. Another reason I decided not to give these another try is after talking to the tree expert at my Garden Center he mentioned these rings will drop the entire 15 gallons of water over roughly an 8 hour period and that may be too much both for the tree and for my well considering that I would need to refill 10 rings a day @ 15 gallons each.

Okay bags but not for me.
These watering bags are exactly what I was expecting but not as functional as I had hoped. When filling, they take a while to fill up (10-15 minutes). The location of the young arborvitae I purchased these watering bags for, makes bending or squatting the only option which can get uncomfortable after a long day of gardening. The bags also do not entirely empty; there ends up being a couple of gallons left that don't ever trickle out. I am guessing this is due to the size of the little spouts and the lack of weight pressing down after the bulk of the water empties out (I have made sure the spouts were not blocked with dirt or other debris). The watering bags also cover the ground underneath the trees completely. That is great for when it is dry, and I want to keep the soil moist, but then the trees miss out on getting water to their root base when it rains, so I end up removing them if rain is in the forecast then replace them afterwards. I would not purchase these again as I have found it to be more convenient to run a hose on a slow flow under the trees for around 45 minutes each. I now only use the bags as a supplement for when it is very dry as I do not want to risk the trees dying like the last ones I planted because I did not give them enough water. I will note I have not experienced any leaks, rips, or tears with the bag, and they both appear well made thus far. They have faded to a camo green shade where they get the most direct sunlight.
