Grandson loves it
Although never cheap Lego is always a perfect present for my little grandson. The firestation is brilliant with little extras that make the difference.

Impressive looking set suitable for younger builders, but not the best value.
This set comes in a large, impressive looking box although the build is rather a simple one. It is unusual to get a set of this size as a 5+, with Lego sets suitable for younger builders usually confined to smaller models. The fire truck itself looks very much the part and has some interesting playable features such as a raisable platform and storage for equipment. The truck cab is also detachable.A robotic fire fighting vehicle is included which has a spring loaded shooter that fires a “water” projectile. Several new fire elements are included to provide targets for the robot to “extinguish”. The robot can be transported on the back of the truck via a ramp for swift deployment to disaster areas. Speaking of disasters, a small and simple lab like structure is included, along with a scientist minifigure to simulate an experiment gone awry. The set offers good play value and combines well with other City themed sets, particularly the fire ones (my son also recently got the Burger Bar fire set, which he has used together with this one).As with some of the other recent City sets, the minifigure selection includes some named characters that are featured in the Lego City adventures TV series. As such, it may appeal to fans of the show. Two of the three fire fighters include a new type of dual moulded helmet, which looks great (finally an upgrade to the old style helmets they have used in Lego fire sets since the 1980’s!!)The only real downside to this set is that the RRP of around £50 for a 380 piece set is poor value (its not quite General Grevious’ starfighter bad, but not far off!) As a general rule of thumb, the in house Lego sets like the City range offer much better value than the licensed ones, but this particular sets price point does not seem right to me. I’d therefore recommend looking out for discounts / flash sales if your considering buying this set.As with all other Lego sets the quality is great, the instructions are clear and the set is sure to appeal to younger builders. Unfortunately, I feel the need to drop a star on this occasion due to the poor price per piece ratio.
