Linux Mint 17 SE Desktop MATE sold by JWCElectronic
This review is for Linux Mint 17 SE Desktop MATE sold by JWCElectronic. This was a great purchase. The vendor is offering a quality product (32 and 64 bit versions) plus lots of software for a very reasonable price. Yes, you can download it all for free and I tried that. But then I had to decide which version, 32 or 64, and hunt all over for drivers and programs, etc. This was frustrating and time consuming. This vendor has put together a very nice package of everything you need, including those wireless drivers that I find so hard to decipher. The install was great (you can see more on this in the Q&A section) and the machine plus wireless fired right up. Stream movies (I tested with Amazon and Netflix), play games, surf the internet, email and more. I have two WIN XP desktops on the floor that were scheduled for the recycle bin but now they will find homes with folks who need a machine, need email, write school papers, etc. "Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can." Linux Mint may be a good choice as an alternative to Windows 10
Linux Mint is OK. I had purchased it on a USB from another vendor. It installed fine so I had no need for the disc version. About 5 months later I tried installing Mint on another PC with the USB but couldn't get it to boot from USB drive so I tried the disc version. After 3 failed attempts (disc was defective) I tried loading a disc version of UBUNTU instead. The disc install was flawless. I didn't bother returning the Mint disc because I had waited so long to install it and it only cost about $11 so I figured it wasn't worth wasting time on it. I'm reasonably sure it is a good implimentation and well worth the price but I just happened to get a bad disc and found out about it too late. In all fairness to the vendor this was not his fault I should have notified him sooner. If I needed a new disc version I wouldn't hesitate to buy it from him again. For now I am very pleased with my UBUNTU installation.

Resurrected a 10-year-old laptop
This disk revived my mother's 2005 Gateway with Windows XP - hard to believe it'd ever work again, or if I could ever get the laptop clean from bloatware, malware, and the like. I wasn't even sure if the system was 32 or 64-bit, but the two disk pack helped me figure it out. I'm not a computer guru by any stretch, but it didn't take me long to get Mint up and running. It's clean and easy to use, although some of the file folder designations remind me of Windows 95/98 (way back when).

Excellent Linux Mint package
An excellent Linux package that includes all the things that you need to install Linux Mint on your computer. Only glitch I experienced was the partition program to dual boot with Windows. I ended up formatting the entire computer to run Linux.

Works!
Oh the nostalgia of using a CD, sounds weird I know, not nearly as old as floppy disks. But I've moved to digital download mostly for the past few or more years.
