Anyone know of a 5 inch version with a square opening and holes for the screws that attach the knob? kwikset signature knob won't work with this item.

you can try this: "Schlage 16-126 Square Corner Dead Latch" it has the square drive so it looks like it will work

Does this work with kwickset keypad lock 99170 ?

This latch appears to work with all kwikset doorknobs. I am not sure if it works with a kwikset keypad lock. You might want to confirm that with Kwikset customer service.

Are amazon and kwikset aware of warranty of merchantability? why can't customers return item not working on arrival?

Probably because Kwikset knows this is a piece of junk. If they allowed returns, they would be swamped by them. That being said, I returned mine with no problem.

Will this work for a Kwikset Smart Code 909?

NO.........the Kwikset Smart Code 909 is a deadbolt lock the Kwikset 3014-01 is for use with a knob set not a deadbolt
