Computer Graphics with Open GL

Same as third edition and cheap paper
*****Revision of my update: 1/9/2013While I keep the 3 stars I have posted, I will like to add more details about the book. This is comparing this book with the previous version.A) The book is much better organized than before.B) The new chapters are not worth the purchase.C) It does have more exercises.D) It still uses GL_QUADS .... Really? Are you serious?Overall, I believe that the publisher and the authors rush this edition so it could be used in the class room. It is an expensive book. Another aspect that I heard from some people taking a CG course, is that they cannot buy an E-BOOK. While I prefer the "REAL" book, there are younger people preferring E-BOOKS.I think if the book, could be updated to reflect Programmable Pipeline (and not one chapter devoted to it as they have it now) and more up to date information, it will have more potential. Also, for the price they request, they could make the book in color. It only has a few pages in the back in color. The rest is AMBER... Green and Black ...I have to say, that Interactive Computer Graphics is a good course text book and more up to date. The one book that I think is perfect for a modern introductory computer graphics course is Foundations of 3D Computer Graphics bySteven J. Gortler. This is the most beautiful book I have seen in the topic, except for the BIBLE (Foley) and maybe WATT. But for introductory course, go with Gortler!REMAINS 3 STARS*****I revised both books and check some entire chapters. The chapter are identical. I have the following problem with the new edition1) Cheap Paper (terrible paper)2) The new material is so small that is not worth buying the book3) They still use the old opengl ... They claim is easier to learn, which they have a point, but get with the times. that's a lazy approach. If you can't find the third edition, then buy it. otherwise, get the third edition.

Heavy on theory, short on openGL
If you want a sophisticated book on principles of computer graphics, this book might work. If you want to learn openGL, this is not the book to get. I found this book difficult to read, perhaps because I'm not all that interested in theory. The book contains only enough information about openGL for them to use it in their examples. It does not contain everything that you would need to know about openGL to write your own programs.

Mismatch between Exercises and Content
This textbook would be more useful if the exercises aligned more with the content of the textbook. As it stands, they do not align well making the exercises confusing and harder to complete than they ought to be.

Just what I need it.
This are "the strongest basics and a little bit more" por Computer Graphics. Want to know how the game engines, image processors, photoshop, etc. work? This is the book. Totally worth it.Not for noobs, but for people who really want a challenge.

Personal use - No. College use - Yes.
This was a required textbook for a graphics course. For a college course, which expects you take vague theory and make it into code. Will do.But if you want to learn it on your own and want a book to do so, I would pass because it does require a lot of linear algebra to do the exercises.
