Swan Lake

I am taking my granddaughter to the ballet for the first time and wanted a book of the story for her to read and understand beforehand. This book is beautiful, better than expected and I'm thrilled I ordered it.

This book seems to take a different approach to the ending of Swan Lake, perhaps as a means of not addressing death in a children's book? The result is still not a happy ending, however, and quite unresolved! My children were very disappointed when I'd finished the book. In comparison, when I played for them an audio of the full story, they loved it and really found a deeper meaning in the story overall. While this book leaves the story hanging on a cliff, the original portrays the overarching truth that although this world contains sin, heartbreak, and death, there is a better "world" beyond where love is reconciled. I have not yet found a children's book that contains the full story, but I'm sure there is one (or more) out there, so if the truth of the original story is what you want, keep looking!
