Pros outweigh the cons. Good double din stereo from a reputable brand
I desperately needed some way to listen to music in my recently bought 2010 Genesis. It had no Bluetooth music and the aux did not work so I was stuck listening to the radio like old times. So I bought this one (I bought an off brand/Chinese one before this one but it did not fit and had to return it). Instantly changed my riding experience. PROS - Wireless or wired Apple CarPlay (I love it so much). - All the features that come with Apple CarPlay. Music, navigation, etc. (I mostly just use it for Spotify). - You now have a good quality double din stereo in your car that’s not stupidly expensive. That’s awesome by itself. - Just looks good and boosts your driving experience. CONS - Has a little bit of half second delay when clicking anything. - No knob to change volume. I seriously did not know that I would hate the + and - buttons for volume adjustment. It’s fine though, I just wished it had a knob. - Not too big of a deal but I’ve had a couple of instances where it just restarts out of no where. Comes back to life in like 7 seconds like nothing happened. - The mic it comes with is kinda trash. You’ll just have to yell at whoever you’re on the call with if your using hands free calling. But that’s all the bad stuff. If you ask me, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. I changed the stereo myself and I recommend to do heavy research before purchasing any stereo. For me, I had to buy like 3 separate things, 2 harnesses and a bezel, to install any stereo. YOU WILL NEED TO CUT WIRES AND CONFECT THEM. It’s not that hard though because the wires the stereo has are color coded and named to make connecting wires easy. 8/10 stereo

Fits 2002 Ford F350 lariat 7.3 with small easy cut
Works great, easy to install, wish it had a volume knob but the push buttons work I guess, fit my 2002 Ford F350 lariat 7.3 had to cut with multitool one part but was simple and easy to install. Hooked up sub to it and camera as well. CarPlay works and Bluetooth as well

Excellent Radio, Less than Adequate Customer Support
Installed this to replace an older model that didn't have Android Auto. Everything works great and the screen has large controls, which make viewing easier. Highly intuitive and easy to hook up. The ability for both front and rear camera's on demand is a plus. It even has the ability to power the camera if you want operation without the reverse lights on. Only one complaint. It has a setting for default volumes for each of the various functions (navigation, phone, radio, stream, etc.). These randomly reset back to zero. Contacted the Boss customer support line and the answer that I got was how to set the volume. Less than supportive. Overall, a very good car radio that performs very well with good visibility on the screen. This is important to me as I have gotten others with font so small it couldn't be read quickly while going down the road.

Nice upgrade from my old Sony
Good replacement for my older, less powerful Sony head unit. The rear USB cables allow for some custom console phone connections and an additional USB port for loading photos or playing movies. The other port is labeled for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. This newer design forces the installation of a custom single pole single throw toggle switch to simulate the parking brake though. Plenty of YT vids on this though. The old school tap off the negative wire no longer works. The 300+ watts also really makes the sub sound better too. Adding images from a USB drive as wallpapers is a little tricky, as you must rotate the image when reviewing them for the button to select it to be visible, then after a few seconds it will be saved. Images are only visible when using the tuner. Oh, and the button illumination color is NOT changeable on the 9700A model. You only get blue. So far, so good though. November 2025 Update Unit is starting to have random issues where the display is black after starting the vehicle. While sound is still heard, volume controls do not work. Issue is resolved by restarting the vehicle. Still looking for a pattern of failure before seeking warranty service.

Three Strikes and You Are Out....
I really wanted this unit to work for adding CarPlay and Bluetooth to an older vehicle. But after purchasing three from two different vendors and returning all of them, I gave up. I am not a car audio professional, but I am an electronics engineer and have been toying with car and home audio most of the past 30 years. First let’s start with the pros: Nice quality screen, easy, ergonomic functionality, and intuitive to use. Physical volume knob (hard to find) Front and rear camera (optional add-ons, I didn’t evaluate). Wired Apple Carplay works well. Very responsive. I had no issues with it connecting and staying connected. This unit does not support Wireless Apple Carplay. Front USB connection does not offer CarPlay, must use the rear USB dongle and connect a Lightning cable to it and fish out the front of your dash. Not a big deal I have a cable hanging in a car all the time anyway. Bluetooth paired and worked well with my iPhone 10. Screen resolution and touch sensitivity performs well. Plentiful pre-tapped mounting holes in various configurations allowed my existing side brackets to make a perfect fit in my 2000 4Runner. Front bezel fit perfectly in the dash. FM tuning and pre-sets work great. I had no problems with the functionality like other reviews. Has 3-year warranty, and from talking with their support, I don’t think you would have an issue with a warranty claim. They were fast to answer, and really wanted to help. Now the Cons: Built-in 4-channel amplifier is severely underpowered. I think my clock radio in my bedroom has more power than this thing. Boss states on their web site this has a 320W amplifier (80Wx 4 channels). This is total baloney. I opened it up and took a look at the numbers on the amplifier chip: TDA7388 made by STMicroelectronics. Their data sheet shows this as a 4 channel x 26 Watt @ 14.4 V, 1 kHz, 10 % Class AB Amplifier. The distortion (THD) graph shows 10% at 11W (this is why is distorts the sound as you turn the volume up to 50% level). To overcome road noise and actually hear music it needs to be 40% to 50% and then the sound unbearably distorts. I was so disappointed in this. For the price I was willing to get over this and manually wire the RCA pre-amp outputs into a 4-channel 25W/channel external amp (even with this little wattage the sound was like night and day compared to the internal amp). But when the pre-amp outputs were used, there was a constant hissing noise on the outputs. I tried three different units, all had the same problem. Even with nothing connected the noise showed on my o-scope. Boss has US based support, and they seem to stand behind their products, but they could offer no explanation. All they could offer was a RMA replacement on the units. Because I was in the 30-day Amazon return period, I didn’t want to risk a full refund. I don’t know why the unit is 6.3” deep. It is literally hollow inside and the whole thing weights 27 oz. Some of the good reviews on Amazon and Crutchfield blow my mind. These buyers must really have replaced sucky factory units. My Toyota factory unit this was to replace is not “premium” by any measure, but had decent quality sound. Even though the features and operation of this Boss unit were nice, I am buying it to hear it not to watch it. I still can't get over how bad it sounded so I can't give it more than one star. I ended up purchasing a ATOTO A6G2A7PF due to another posted review and could no be happier with it, in fact it blew me away for the price point (and it has wireless CarPlay).

It’s okay but save your pennies
To start off with I have A 2005 Chevy Silverado. You will have to find an ignition power on/off. The one in the factory harness will not work. The head unit is a basic unit works fine mounts okay. You’ll have to drill the brackets to get all the mounting screws in. I’ve noticed that this unit seems to have a heat issue. Had my truck warming up, head unit on, heat on. Dove to location. Turned truck off for a few mins. Turned back on and unit would not comeback in. Let it sit over night, and it works no problem…..weird but okay. Either way it’s under $200 and the Bluetooth work perfect and apple car play works great. I would suggest getting a harness that will plug into your factory harness. There are for sure better units out there.

Great value
This is by far the best CarPlay unit you can get for the money. I use it on all of my cars, and I go through cars a lot. The last car I sold, I unfortunately didn’t have time to remove the old one before the sale. So I bought a new one. I was PLEASANTLY surprised to discover that the unit has been updated to support wireless CarPlay- which the old one did not. This is a great selling point and tremendously adds to the value of the product. I have used other cheaper units and the responsiveness, sound quality, and overall functionality are nothing compared to this unit. The unit does have 2 usb outlets, one on the face, and one extended one to add wherever you want. They are good to have, but frankly unnecessary with the addition of wireless CarPlay. It has power and video inlets for a backup camera and a microphone for hands free phone calls. Perfect for an everyday driver

A much needed upgrade
Quality head-unit for my 1998 GMC Suburban, very straightforward to install. Only tedious process was wiring, but everything is labeled for you. The capacitive touch screen is responsive and quality, and with the 7 inch display its easy to see whats displayed at the moment. CarPlay stays updated through your phone, I don't have an android so I cant give input there.
