Best hammer drill on the market today. American brand.
The power and speed of this drill is impressive, the grip of the chuck and its capacity are incredible, and despite everything, the battery life (a 5A powerstack) is amazing. Very happy with the purchase.

Great drill well worth the money
Really nice hammer/drill. This is my 3rd DeWalt drill and this is by far their best. The hammer function is nice but the feature I love the most is the auto cutoff if it catches. When you're drilling into metal the bit almost always catches as it gets ready to punch through and I don't know how many times I've come close to breaking my wrists. The first time I punched through metal with this the bit caught and the drill cut off and my wrists were very glad I bought this thing.

Powerful
I have a 11 year old DeWalt DCD 790 drill that has served me well. However I needed a drill that could power my 8 inch ice auger and the 790 just didn't have the power for that. I also have some projects coming up that require a hammer drill. Since I already have a bunch of DeWalt tools, it made sense to look at DeWalt for a new drill/hammer drill. After looking at reviews of this drill, showing how powerful it is, and the anti-rotation system, I decided to pull the trigger when I saw it on sale ($202).I think the anti-rotation system is a must when you are using large hole saws or something like an ice auger. I've had painful experiences when a large bit jams and the drill keeps turning, twisting your wrist to unnatural angles. The anti-rotation system on this drill works flawlessly. Drilling thru 30 inches of ice, my ice auger jammed just before getting thru the ice and the drill immediately shutdown. All the indicator lights on the drill turn red when the anti-rotation system kicks in. Just release the trigger and it resets. It is one of the best new features I've seen on a power tool. The drill functions are extensive. The three speed gear box allows you to set your drilling to just about any material you are going to drill. The clutch is electronic and not only allows slippage at the select clutch point, but adjusts the drill's speed depending on the clutch setting. At the lightest clutch setting the drill is slowed considerably.I've only done one test hole with the hammer drill function, but it drilled 6" into a cinder block very quickly. In hammer mode, the drill spins much faster than in drill mode and gear speed 3.The LED light is really useful. It's as bright as a flashlight, is adjustable up and down, and you can set it to stay on for up to 20 minutes. The downside on this drill is the weight and the price. With a 6 AH Flex-Volt battery attached and the handle, it comes in at 7 lbs 2 oz. Not something you want to be holding over your head for any length of time. The MSRP of $249 is pretty steep for a drill/hammer drill and probably not worthwhile unless you really need the power this drill provides.

Better than advertised!
This hammer drill worked fantastically! Heavier than expected but it still feels good in your hands. Was able to finish my project in half of the time. I got plenty of batteries so just orderling the tool alone worked great.

Very nice upgrade and powerful
This was a replacement for a previous hammer dril that broke. It is definetly a little bigger, heavier with a lot more power than my older one. I really appreciate the adjustable light which was a great addition especially when working in darker areas.

Fatal chuck design flaw! DeWalt made good.
Attached below is the original one-star review I wrote. I pursued the issue I raised with DeWalt and finally got to someone who ran the problem down and told me that this was a known factory issue and the drill would be repaired gratis. Which it was.So I change my review to 4 stars. This is in all respects but one a great drill. Now that DeWalt has repaired my unit, I can change my rating.Original review: This drill would be a first-rate tool, but suffers from a fatal design flaw. The chuck is keyless – you just twist to tighten it, then twist in the opposite direction to loosen the grip on your bit.Yes, it's more efficient than the old keyed chuck in terms of quick-changing bits, but the new system introduces a a great propensity to fail and – this is the simply unforgivable part – DeWalt has made it next to impossible to get at the chuck to replace it. You have to – completely – disassemble the tool and use a torch to get the chuck free.Worse still, DeWalt's "3-year warrantee" isn't a 3-year warrantee, no matter what you read in their manual. The actual defect warrantee is 1 year, and the chuck problem is considered normal wear and tear.I'm a retiree who used the tool very lightly for 2 years. Now the chuck is toast and I have a ≈ $250 door stop to show for my investment. This is a case of a really poor design decision being taken out of the hide of the consumer. It has really shaken my faith in DeWalt's judgment.

Great Product
A couple of months ago I didn't know what a hammer drill was, and now I can't imagine NOT having one! And keep in mind that you can always use it in rotation-only mode (without hammering), in which case it's a great regular drill too.
