Be Mindful of Monsters: A Book for Helping Children Accept Their Emotions

Not sure it hits the mark for my son BUT content is good
Firstly I understand and admire what the intention of the book is......I have a 5 year old who has just started to struggle a little more with his emotions hence purchasing this book. I would personally say it is a little old for him, perhaps more appropriate for a child a few years older. I think there are better alternatives for a child our sons age including the Dr Seuss book about colours which is perhaps more straightforward for a young brain. That said, I will continue to read it as the message is good and it will no doubt eventually be understood and embraced.

Excellent for boys and girls with big emotions
My son, 5, has been struggling with emotional meltdowns, and LOVES this book. We have read it at least 5 times this week, and he has been independently bringing up the concepts it introduces. The book itself is excellent - there's a story, very nicely illustrated, about a child whose emotions are like scary monsters, and how the child learns to listen to what the emotions are saying, and stop them being frightening. It's a particularly nice touch that the child's gender is never specified so that neither girls not boys worry that it's "not for them".

An informative book about emotions
Always good to have another book on emotions, as the more children can identify their emotions and manage the better. The book through a story and lovely illustrations does this. So important to read stories like this to develop our children’s Emotional Intelligence.

Excellent book about emotions.
I bought this book to read to my class. I had to simplify some of the language but the book was an excellent springboard for discussions about strategies for dealing with different emotions.

Very helpful
A very useful book to help young children name and normalise their feelings. A book to return to time and time again when feelings overwhelm. Time is needed by the parent/carer to talk about feelings.

Engaging book to help when talking to children about how they feel
I enjoyed the illustrations in this book a lot. I appreciated how the book encourages children to think about how they feel and why. Much more helpful than telling children just to focus on the positive which seems a common response to children who are worried, sad or scared.

A beautiful introduction to mindfulness and acceptance of emotions for children
I'm really looking forward to sharing this book with my son. It's beautifully illustrated and gives a lovely introduction to the practice of accepting all emotions as valid. In addition it offers some practical strategies, which I know will be useful for us to use.

Clear, simple and effective
This is a great book which I will definitely recommend to any parent who would like empower their children to notice their feelings with safety. The colours are vibrant and soothing together which will captivate children's attention.
