Tamiya 35257 1/35 Soviet Tank T-55A Plastic Model Kit

Tamiya quality is evident in this model, although some of the assembly illustrations could be clearer when dealing with smaller parts. I would be willing to pay a little more for metal grill covers instead of what's provided. Overall a fun build. I did decide to buy a metal seamless gun tube instead of the two piece plastic one Tamiya supplies. No pesky seam to try and sand off. The rubber tracks have their pluses and minuses. Easy to paint and put together—I have built a number of Tamiya tank models with these and haven’t had one break yet. The individual tracks on the market vary greatly in quality with metal tracks costing as much as the model. Some of the cheaper track brand are difficult to glue together and for me have a bad habit of coming apart. The more expensive use pins. For now the Tamiya tracks suit me just fine.

This is my 5th Tamiya T-55 build excellent quality model easy to assemble no obstacles I made mine an Egyptian camo scheme .I used Trumpeter's T-55 plastic track links, and it fit perfect around the drive sprockets and road wheels usually rubber plastic tracks are easier, but I felt it needed a better detail with track links instead overall great T-55 I recommend it to the tank modelers No interior details though like other T-55 models, but this one will do.

Hi folks, I recently built this and wanted to share my thoughts. As is true with all Tamiya kits, fit is no issue - everything fits without having to alter parts. There is no flash. It builds very straightforward right out of the box. Decals include four variants from Russia and some other eastern bloc nations. It can be built with or without the added storage box on the turret. Instructions are simple, easy to follow and show various camo schemes. The only drawback for be was the single piece vinyl tracks. I know many of you prefer these, but I prefer the individual link tracks. I have a suspicion that vinyl tracks may not last over the years. Still, the provided tracks look pretty good on both sides and are easy to "sag" by supergluing them to the tops of the roadwheels. There's something to be said in respect to the pleasure of building Tamiya kits. Granted, many makers currently make MUCH more detailed kits, but they generally cost two or three times as much. The more complex kits often require a lot of planning and thinking out of the box to achieve a good result. Errors in complex kits can be unforgiving. A case in point is the miniart type 59 kit I've been working on off and on for over a year now. I have built kits from every major manufacturer, and as such have a basis for comparing who makes quality models. The miniart kit is stunning,yes. But difficult? OMG! It sort of takes the fun out of the Hobby when when every step has to be scrutinized and executed with a surgeon's care. Model building is supposed to fun. Anyway, I digress. The Tamiya T 55 is a great kit that can be built by anyone with modest skills. It's one of only a few T 55's on the market. If you want a little more of a challenge, Takom makes a great T55 in Egyptian markings...look for that review in the near future, as I recently acquired one. Happy Modelling!

This kit, as expected from Tamiya, is very high quality, parts fit well together. Some other reviews talk about a "lack of detail", but I have seen the actual T-55, up close, and the actual tank, does not have a lot of detail. Like the Soviet tanks of the day, it is a Spartan Machine. This version is very true to reality. The only negative I can cite in this purchase was the choice of shipment, it came by USPS, and it came three days late, which is inexcusable considering that the shipment tracking showed that it was sent to some locations more than once, causing the three day delay in arrival.

Tamiya is basically the no- hassle kit. Fit and finish are good instructions are usually good- every now and then there will be something that is not quite clear to me. Tracks are rubber band tracks. No seam issues. I didn’t some minor putty work and the extended platform under the turret was not clear to me so I had to remove and reinstall- that was most likely a just a brain fart in my part. I’m doing this in a Poland police version so it is black. Not quite done with it. Enjoyable kit. Really wish amazon would not refer to these as toys. They’re not meant to be played with. I’ve seen people give bad reviews because of thinking of them as toys. The guys that are good at these are truly artists in my opinion.

Tamiya kits are very accurate and always of excellent quality! Tamiya employees who sculpt the figures are some of the best in the industry!

This was a fun and simple build. Very cool how Tamiya lets your choose between multiple variants of the tank. Or you can always go off the deep end and make your own tank out of previous decals. Everything fit nice, and you get the Tamiya quality instruction manual with easy to read directions and color ideas.
