Review: An essential book for enthusiasts of art history. - This book is a gem! After reading Mary Gabriel’s Ninth Street Women I knew I needed to add Women of Abstract Expressionism to my library. It is filled with beautiful color plates and includes a thorough chronology detailed with photographs. My favorite section of the book was an unexpected surprise, selected biographies of lesser known artists. I’ve used this section as a source for continued additions to my reading wish list.

The Women Who Gave Birth to Abstract Expressionism
This was a gift for my daughter who is a painter of abstract expressionistic art and she is thoroughly enjoying the book ~~ the colored plates, the information provided, the biographies of the artists.

Beautiful book, damaged product
This book is beyond beautiful and a joy to look through. Unfortunately, the book came damaged and is pretty distorted, it even pops when opening the cover and flipping through the pages. But I am NOT going to be "one of those" who give the actual book a bad review because that would be stupid! It is a wonderful book and definitely worth the price, somehow it got damaged when packaging or during production. I will definitely be buying another copy asap.

This book is for experts in art
Bought as a gift. Material in this book is way over my head.

It was hard getting tracking info.
The book is good. The the packaging was too lightweight for the weight of this book. A corner broke through cardboard causing small damage to a corner.

About Time ,But Still Not Enough
this is a very informative catalog. it serves to set right the missing female additions of Abstract Expressionism. It does this I believe, but it could have said more about the artists later working life. the only qualm with the book I have is the second rather wordy art forum styled piece. it may have been well meaning to art historians and I do not believe in dummying down, but this was way off base for anyone that may be a layman of sorts trying to learn. Now on to the work. Of course i wish there were more pictures, of the work and of the artists, of the time. The differences in work and sexual politics between East and West may have made a very strong photographic essay since it was referred to many times in the book. Over all, I loved the book.

Copious quality images fills the history gap!
The book has large color reproductions throughout that show the paintings surface in relief. Each artist is featured in a 2 page spread that includes a photograph of the artist often shown in their studio or in front of their work. The show at the Denver Art Museum featured the work of both New York and California women. I brought it to the rehab center wher my mother in law, 93, is recovering from a fall, she is a working fiber and mixed media artist. She got out the oil pastels the next day. I am thankful for women artist who express themselves through color shape and movement.

Het zijn niet altijd de bekende artiesten die kunst maken. Een verademing , dit boek en dan nog prachtig uitgegeven.

This is a beautiful book although the color(print quality )of some of the reproductions is not good. The main strength of the book lies in the fact that it assembles a lot of important works of some great women artits. The photos are very large which is very important for this kind of books. Hope the print quality would have been better.

L'expressionnisme abstrait masculin, beaucoup trop torturé et inutilement compliqué, devrait s'inspirer des ces merveilleuses créations féminines. Juste magnifique. C'est de l'oxygène pour l'intellect et un frissonnement d'émotion
