I'm an Executive Assistant early in my career and this book is the best I've read to truly inspire me and teach me about the reality of the EA career path. My story: In 2021 I found myself promoted to an EA. I didn't know what else to do, but I knew it was a step up from AA and more money. I never considered this job before. To learn a bit, I searched for EA books on Amazon. This book was the first I had read and it truly inspired me to learn more, follow more EA's, take my professional development seriously (hello Tony Robins books!) and to appreciate the value and magic of the EA. Since last year I've really excelled in my position. I've become super passionate about being an EA and people can tell when I talk about it. I attend virtual EA events, sign up for every virtual pro-d opportunity for EA's I can, I've become an active member of the Vancouver EA network and I'm investing in my leadership skills. Since I started last year I've nearly doubled my salary through offers and a recent new job acceptance. One of the best decisions I made since reading this book was following Maggie on LinkedIn and seeing the network of EA posts from around the world. It is here I find out about new webinars and courses as well as everyday moments of inspiration to propel me during those slump days. Maggie is an absolute powerhouse of EA knowledge and generosity! Read this and follow her on socials to continue learning more!

I read this book on a trip with my boss to Maui with other Executives on our team. As they enjoyed high balls 45,000 feet in First Class over the Pacific Ocean, I was cramped in Basic Economy. Keep in mind, I love my boss and she did not put me in this seat, she even offered to upgrade me with her status, but I felt it was important to pay my way and I can never sleep on a plane anyway. I was lucky enough to be invited because we are such a great team, and of course, I want to spend my vacation with her! Your boss may be nice, but my boss is cool and FUN AS HELL. But still, I wasn’t aware that there was a cabin lower than Economy, and as I was crammed between a lovely, but overly friendly for Covid time’s couple from Ohio, I decided to crack open Maggie Jacob’s The Elevated EA. I got this book to try and better myself to see how I can help my boss out, but I didn't realize that by the end of it, my passion as an EA would be reignited and I wanted to get right back into work, even though my vacation hadn't even begun. Let me tell you about THIS BOOK. It was as if I straight up followed Maggie Jacobs's life path, and I read ahead into what my potential future was. Maggie takes the reader on a journey from troubled past, indifferent 20s, falling into cooperate world, and culminating into the beast that she is who is changing the game for Executive Assistants everywhere. The Elevated EA is a part autobiographical novel of Maggie Jacobs’s life and her journey into becoming an EA, part self-help, and part motivational. It is about knowing your self-worth, bettering yourself through networking and training, and finally becoming the best version of yourself to elevate you and your boss to the next level. My whole mindset since I became an EA 2 years ago was not really having any goals or aspirations for myself. As an assistant, I never thought my opinions mattered, only my bosses. This mindset has been completely shifted after reading this book. Although my goals are still and always will be my boss’s goals, how can I better myself to align myself on their level? Maggie argues very persuasively that EA’s should be making just as much as upper-level management. We are supposed to be the right-hand of the top of a company, entrusted with all the company secrets, as well as the know-how to make shit happen. A great EA does not work below or for their CEOs and Presidents, but rather in tandem. If you and your boss are misaligned, then the partnership is off as well. EA’s are paranoid, neurotic, and selfless. We will read into every detail, word, and offhand joke and take it to heart. However, when you and your boss are on the same wavelength, things will click, ideas will flow, and everyone is just generally happier. Maggie’s book teaches shows you how to be on the ladder and bring everyone’s output around you to the next level, but most importantly your bosses. The biggest take-home I got from reading The Elevated EA was to know your self-worth, trust your instincts, and learn to ask and argue for your company to invest in YOU. Everything is a business, it all comes down to KPIs and the bottom line. If I can do something more efficiently at the end that will save your company, the upfront cost is negligible. If the company isn’t willing to pay, they are essentially saying they don’t really value you as an assistant. Have those 1:1s with your boss, and get on their level. Push your company to take you seriously as an essential piece of the puzzle, and finally, put the time and effort into making yourself the best and elevated version of yourself. This book has so many amazing quotes, you will find yourself saying to yourself "Wow, who are these people and how can I be like them?" Be the Elevated EA, and please read this book!!

I loved that Maggie isn’t shy to open up to her true story and tell you how life can be difficult but you are the master of your choices. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has been an EA for decades or is thinking about becoming one. We are always leaning and by reading this book Maggie will teach you a few things too. Enjoy it as much as I did.
