ABUS 83CS/45 300 Schlage Brass Rekeyable Padlock, Zero Bitted

As always for this line of Abus locks, the results are solid. The key way fits a Schlage C key as expected, and is easy to pin up. Open the lock with the included zero bitted key. Use a good fitting #2 Phillips screwdriver down the shackle hole to remove the core retention screw. This must be a good fit, as the screw is tight. When the core slides out, look for the little spacer that makes the lock key retaining, and note how it installs. (It is sort of a stretched out Z shape) if you do not want the lock to be key retaining, go ahead and remove it. While it usually stays on the top of the cylinder, it does occasionally stay up in the lock actuator. It can be left there until reassembly, if you want to keep the feature, just be careful that you don’t loose it if it falls out while handling the lock. To pin the cylinder, inset the zero bitted key in the cylinder if it is not already there. Rotate counter clockwise until it stops. There is a plunger on the side, at the back, which need a to be depressed to rotate another 90 degrees counter clockwise, while keeping the key facing up. This will expose all the lower pins through a side window without removing the core. You can dump out the zero pins, and replace with standard Schlage pins with lengths as normal for a Schlage core to fit your key. You can insert the key you are keying to, and ensure all pins are smooth to the surface of the core before turning back and confirming normal function. I believe the one I pulled the core on had spools in all but one position, which should make this core generally immune to raking and bump keys.

Before you buy, make sure you’re either up for rekeying it yourself or take it to a locksmith. The lock is quite heavy, feels very solid, and rekeyed easily. When you insert your Schlage key and turn, it goes in and turns so smoothly. I’ve had it stay outdoors and no problems so far. Very nice lock.

Is a nice sturdy guarded padlock that looks like it should resist corrosion and attempts to pry it open. Opens and closes very smoothly with a satisfying click. Buyers should note that they will need to re-key the lock since the key that comes with it has no grooves. The seller should make this more clear with a picture of the key that comes with the lock. That said, I found it very easy to re-key with a re-keying kit, even though I had never changed a lock before. I like that I can customize the lock core to work with keys I'm already using (e.g. my house key).

This padlock is very sturdy and looks like it would frustrate casual theifs, especially when paired with a sturdy abus hasp.

El candado es evidentemente resistente y seguramente sería muy útil excepto por el siguiente detalle: Viene con una llave "virgen", o sea sin cortar. Cualquier llave de ese tamaño puede abrir el candado hasta que se le haga una nueva a la medida. La idea es que para mayor seguridad se lleva con un cerrajero que le diseña una llave específica y nueva a tu candado. El problema es que he visitado al menos 7 cerrajerías distintas y en ninguna pueden hacer ese trabajo. Así que a menos que estén seguros que alguien puede hacer eso por ustedes, mejor no lo compren. A mí me quedó un bonito pero caro pisapapeles.
