DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!
This thing is junk! I put batteries in it 3 times thinking SURELY ITS BAD BATTERIES BUT IT WASN'T THAT! This was worthless right out of the package working only when it wants to then 15 minutes later never worked again! It's cheaply made & sounded like a old record with a scratched needle! I trashed it because its more trouble to send it back then what its worth! I'm VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED & TOLD 6 OF MY FRIENDS WHO WERE ALSO WANTING ONE TO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT & NOW I'M LETTING ALL OF YOU KNOW TOO! I wish I could put minus 20 stars!

Use to divert woodpecker issue
I've used this for a month and it is still going strong. I've tried everything to divert woodpeckers from my house (including a Nerf gun - see other review) for years, with little success. Batteries are still going strong. I have it set on 'day mode', which means its active 24 hrs a day. Sometimes birds come in low and the sensor does not catch them, but I hear the 'dog barking sound' often enough that the diversion is active. Its not super loud so not an annoyance for my neighbor (neither of us have pets).I mounted devise with 2-way tape on top ridge of my roof, where I there is a 30 ft circular section of house. Its been rained on and even light snow, still works. I have a nearby tree and I the wind creates some false alarms, but that might be additional deterrent. Woodpeckers are very smart, so stand alone decoys usually only last a few days. The barking seems to be the answer. I'll keep you posted if things change.

Like it wasn't there
I bought this to discourage the feral peafowl who inhabit my neighborhood from camping out on my deck. After selecting a good location for mounting the device, I turned it on and tested its range of detection and was pleased that it spotted my movements well over 30 feet distant, rewarding me with some robust barking dog noise. I was optimistic at this point, but within a day of mounting, I returned home to see two pea hens and a cock in full plumage parading around on the deck, totally ignoring the barking and flashing light. Very little seems to scare these exotic birds. On the plus side, the "Sonic Shield" does serve to announce when someone pulls into my driveway. Other than that, it was a total waste of time and money.

Too short lived
My device stopped working correctly mid July right after it was unreturnable. It was outside but protected from the rain because it was placed in an open sided container. However, one day it began to bark without stopping and nothing has helped. The days were hot and in the 90's, I don't know if that had anything to do with it because it was in the full sun since that's the area where the squirrels arrive. Tried new batteries, cleaning and a long rest, but I haven't gotten it to work again. Too short lived for the money.

Not for birds
I thought it would work for birds in the barn. It does not.

These are so great I am ordering two more!!
We have tried everything to get the Mocking Birds off our deck. I cannot believe this little machine!! My husband is having me order 2 more for other locations. It is great!!! I don't have to clean the deck or chairs every day now!!!! We did have to order a total of three before we found one that worked but Amazon was very patient and kept replacing them. I will make sure we always have one of these in working order because I cannot believe the difference it makes on our deck.

When it works it is good.
I have purchased four or five of these, returned a couple. When they work, they are fine, they will bark when triggered. But several bark constantly and go through four batteries within 24 hours. None that I have purchased have lasted more than a month without malfunction. I got them and some of the solar ultrasonic devices to keep the deer out of my corn, and hopefully my pecans. I had two crops of corn. The first seemed to be varmit free while the ultrasonic devices were present, but I moved them to my pecans, and the varmits devoured my second corn crop as well as the dried corn from the first.
