Dateline: A Wall, Mid-Renovation, Under the Naked Glare of a Work Light. We live in an age of celebrated marvels. We sing praises to the microchip, to the wireless signal, to the glowing screen. But we forget the unsung heroes, the silent, stoic soldiers of infrastructure that make it all possible. Today, we pay tribute to one such hero: The Round Metal Electrical Outlet Box. There is a profound, almost beautiful honesty to this object. It is a dense, grey, cast-metal puck of pure, unadulterated purpose. It has no moving parts. It has no smart features. It does not connect to the Wi-Fi. Its one and only job in this world is to be a box. A tiny, weatherproof fortress for the dangerous, crackling energy that powers our lives. It arrived with a satisfying, reassuring heft. This is not some flimsy, plastic pretender that will crack under pressure or surrender to the first curious squirrel. This is metal. Cold, hard, and built with a certain old-world contempt for corner-cutting. The five half-inch holes are cleanly tapped, ready to accept the threaded conduit that will feed the beast within. It feels… solid. It feels like it will still be sitting in this wall long after the house itself has crumbled to dust around it. Now, let's talk about the price. Yes, you could probably embark on a savage, half-day journey to the fluorescent-lit hellscape of a big-box hardware store and find a similar item for a few dollars less. You could wander the endless aisles, hunt down a pimply-faced youth for directions, and stand in a checkout line that snakes back to the lumber department. But this grey bunker, this little metal champion, arrived at my door. The extra cost was a convenience tax, a small fee paid to avoid the horrors of retail on a Saturday afternoon. A fair trade. In the end, what can you say? It’s a box. It did the job of being a box with grim, professional finality. It now sits in my wall, a silent, grey guardian, containing the chaotic energy that it was born to hold. It does its job without fanfare, without complaint. And in a world of flimsy, over-hyped gadgets, there is a deep and abiding respect to be had for a simple, solid tool that does exactly what it promises. It is a good box.

The FEIT bulbs seem superior to those we have been buying at Home Depot, where there seems to be only one brand. The Home Depot bulbs have a range of issues: flickering, not screwing into the socket properly, burning out early. These FEIT bulbs are doing great so far. We have FEIT security cameras, so we trust the brand.
