Jabril (Vampires in America Book 2)

After stewing for all of a few hours upon reaching the cliffhanger ending of book 1, I went out and bought book 2, because I had to know what happened. For the first half of the book, I was tearing my hear out (not really, just figuratively). While I’m very fond of the heroine, Cyn, I didn't like Jabril's character, I didn't like his minions ( I suppose that's kind of the point), and I really disliked the simpering Mirabelle. AND, after breaking down and throwing my no-cliffie rule to the wind, I was extremely disappointed that Raphael played little to no part in a good chunk of the book.But by the half way point, things started to look up, and I was once again so hooked in the story that household chores got pushed to the wayside. I’m very happy to say that this book did NOT end on a cliffhanger. I’m going to go right out and buy book 3, but this time, it’s because I want to remain in Cyn and Raphael’s world, not because I feel like I have to to get some closure.

This book should have been named Cynthia. Jabril was a petty thug and coward who could only intimidate those weaker than him i.e. human women. Imagine being killed with your pants down so to speak. Also, this book was a continuation of Raphael and Cynthia's romance.I loved Raphael's behaviour, it made up in a small way for his actions in book one. Cynthia proved to be a better badass than I could even imagine. I have never in all my vampire romance books, met a woman who behaves and believes she can hold her own against the species and does so with regularity.Kudos

Jabril is the second book of this series and a continuation of the first book, Raphael. There is also a twist as Jabril is the bad guy, the vampire Lord of the southern territories. He hires Cyn to find a missing girl, but also to irritate Raphael. Jabril doesn't think much of women in general, but he wants control of a fortune that belongs to two Texas girls. Mirabelle, the older one, has already been turned and he has her money, but Jabril wants to also turn Liz when she reaches the age of eighteen so he can control the entire fortune. Liz has run away, not wanting to suffer the same fate as her sister.Cyn has her own ideas about Mirabelle and Liz and acts accordingly. It's a great story with a lot of twists and turns. My only complaint was that I wanted a little more Raphael.I like that this series is built around strong women along with the vampires. It makes sense that vampire lords need independent women as a counter to their own alpha tendencies. I'm sad to see the end of Cyn and Raphael's story, but I look forward to the next book in the series.

I loved the book but I only gave it 4 stars because I got upset that you have to continue the book. I hate books that continue I know this one doesn't go to more books than two but it still upset me that I have to continue to a second book LOL. And this one we have her from the first book Cynthia and we have her vampire Lord that she loves but couldn't commit to her since it's only just one woman and then we have the bad vampire and the two girls that he abuses. Of course he wants Cynthia he can't be content with what he already has he has to follow her back to another vampires territory .. The book is fast-paced like all of her books .. I have to admit I was disappointed in the her 1st vampire books I was only disappointed because I had to read the second one with the same people and it was hoping for separate people

4.5 stars rounded up.It’s sometimes hard to read a book series back to back, but this wasn’t one of those times. I read this one, and the first in the series, Raphael, in a two day period recently, and liked them both-a lot. This one was the winner of the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award,for paranormal romance(small press). The other thing interesting is that Jabril is the name of the villain, not the main character, which means that Raphael was the love interest in this book too. Yea!Cynthia (Cyn)Leighton is still suffering from a broken heart after master vampire, Raphael, leaves her alone. As she is a private investigator, she decides to take on the case of a missing girl in Texas. Elizabeth is human, but under the care of her guardian, a vampire named, Jabril. The girl’s sister, Mirabelle, is also under Jabril’s rule, only she is also a vampire. The sisters have inherited a huge estate and Jabril has taken it over and is just waiting for Elizabeth to turn eighteen before he changes her, as he did Mirabelle. As he is their master, or in Elizabeth’s case, will be, that puts all of the estate in Jabril’s hands. I should mention that Jabril is just flat out evil-not one shred of anything else but evil. Cyn of course is having none of it. She takes one look at Jabril and knows that both sisters need to be free of him. And let me tell you, Jabril’s wrath is pretty unreal. Raphael is really not happy with Cyn either. He knows exactly what Jabril motives are towards Cyn, and they have everything to do with Raphael.I haven’t found a series that I liked this well in awhile. I have a huge tbr pile and that means I usually read the first of a series, have every intention of reading the next one, and in most cases, still haven’t. So the fact that I immediately read the second one of this series after finishing the first, is very telling. I found them to be well written, suspenseful, bloody and very sensual. Cyn is not one of those simpering main characters that have to be rescued by the hero. She can hold her own with vampires and does so-even if the odds are stacked against her. I also enjoyed getting to know more about Raphael, and his reasons for leaving Cyn behind.The next book features another couple from what I can tell. I do know that the author revisits this couple in at lease a couple novellas. I am going to try and read these books in order, no matter how much I want to finish reading more about Cyn and Raphael! My hope is that the next books, and their main characters, are just as entertaining, and the characters as well drawn, as the characters in these first two books. If you haven’t read the first book in this series, you really should, as this book will make a lot more sense! FYI-This one does not have a cliffhanger-good news! (RabidReads.com)

No plot spoilers.No potential triggers.So, I gave five stars because the storyline is a cracker, the characterisation is exceptional and the book totally delivers. Vampire PNR is not my usual genre, but the author kills it.There are no grammatical errors, no editorial bombs and the plotline is smooth as silk.The author strikes the right balance of show and tell which makes the book roll along at a terrific pace.There are some sex scenes, plenty of swearing so if you are prudish don't buy the book. Just a slight warning, there are some elements of non consensual sex alluded to but not described.I will be purchasing the next book in this series.

I am really getting hooked on this series. The book is titled Jabril, so, as with other books of this genre, I assumed it would be his story and finding his mate. Oh so wrong there and thank goodness because he is evil personified, a thoroughly nasty character. This is a follow-on of Raphael and Cyn, whose story did not finish satisfactorily in the previous book. Cyn takes on a case and gets to meet the despicable Jabril who wants her to find his ward who has gone missing. Whilst she is working for him in Texas, Raphael is being pursued by police for suspicious murders that they think him responsible for. This is much faster paced and edgier than than the first book and I am looking forward to following the series.

This series just keeps getting better and better. What a disgusting vamp Jabril was but he certainly got his comeuppance. This book and all D B Reynolds all deserve a five star rating. I have already read all the books in this collection and I am now on my second read. If you have not read any of these Vampires in America series I would honestly say you should asap.

If I'm honest I was more interested in the conclusion of Cyn and Raphael's story than the missing person case in this. Jabril was a bit of a psychotic control freak that I would have gladly staked myself if I could have jumped into this story. Power hungry a-hole.As for the romance aspect. It took way too long for Raphael to surface in this--almost half way through--and the mystery aspect wasn't holding my attention that much. So when he reappeared I was jumping for joy wanting them to just get it on. It took a little too long for Raphael to admit he was wrong in what he did and for them to get back together but in the end, they did. Woohoo!Hopefully the rest of the series will be more romance orientated or I won't be distracted by will-they won't-they storylines.

The author keeps up the great style and momentum in this second book. As we get to know more about the characters it is clear that they are going to become firm favourites of ours. I am especially pleased that the author knows how to write a good strong alpha female to complement the alpha vamp lead - too many authors turn their lead women in to brainless gushing hormones as soon as a strong pair of arms walks by - but nope, not here. Be prepared for a strong sassy chick who can still get the alpha male while kicking bottom 😉Have already brought the next book and dived right in. If you haven't read the first book then go back and read Raphael as this is the second part of his and Cyn's story, (and you are in for a treat! It's a must for fans of JRWard and LKH)if you have already read book one then rest assured the fun continues.
