No, the switch sits in the ignition circuit and only carries a low current. When it opens it is the same as turning off the ignition key..

is the switch or circuit closed with the plastic key in place and open when plastic key is removed ?

when the plastic safety key is inserted the circuit is closed and the motor will operate. When the safety key is removed the circuit is open and the motor will shut off. The whole idea here is you attach the safety lanyard to your person so if you fall out of the boat, the safety key is pulled and the motor shuts down.

i have a clip on kill switch that falls off easily , can i put one of these on the boat in lew of using the switch have already by switch wires?

I am not sure of the question but if he is asking if he can replace the existing kill switch with the lanyard kit the answer is yes. The installation takes less than ten minutes.
