Taking Flight: A Book of Story Meditations

I don't think there's a way I can do this book (and its companion book  Heart of the Enlightened ) justice. Suffice to say that it spoke to me in a way that very little has since, or probably ever will. Perhaps a bit more explicitly: it set my soul on fire.Anyone can understand these very short parables, regardless of age, culture, or faith. They read as funny jokes, as brief stories, as small reflections, as food for thought. They often seem slight, almost negligible in stature. Some are only a few words long. But as I've come to realize over time, less is more in this genre. There is a universe housed in each of these passages, enough to feed you for a lifetime. I hesitate to say it because it sounds like hyperbole, but if you read one book* in your life, I think it should be this one.* Actually you should read Taking Flight +  Heart of the Enlightened , which were originally published as a single book called Prayer of the Frog, but which were separated by the US publisher for some reason.

I had this book in softback, but gave it to a friend. It is one I like to have on hand to read from time to time, so found this hardback that completely fits the bill.

Anthony De Mello- His Beautiful Heart and Mind is sharing thoughts from the ages to simplify ones life into pure happiness. I miss him. You will share this book many times over.

While this book is not quite as good as Heart of the Enlightened, it is a good collection of stories and parables that make one think, and better, question one's own thinking.

This is a collection of brief stories to meditate on. They are good to take in and think about for at least one day. Excellent daily spiritual nutrition. I'd recommend this to anyone who is interested in thinking deeply about their spiritual lives.

I liked the other two books from De Melo and wanted to get a third and this one fit my needs.

The stories in the book offer insights and understanding to many areas of life and it's challenges. It is a book that you will re-read. I am about to savor my second time around. A must for spiritual travelers.

This book is the very essence of Anthony de Mello! It makes you stop and think! And then perhaps give up some of your antiquated opinions! I have several of de Mello's books and have liked them all, but I love this one!

This is a great book with short stories full of wisdom and depth that can take your breath away, expand your mind and force you to reflect on your values, beliefs, assumptions, and life. It covers a wide range of subjects from prayer, religion, love, and truth, etc, The stories are from around the world, and Anthony De Mellow has made them easy to understand and remember long after you've read them.Highly recommended.

Didn't enjoy this as much as his other two books, but can't win them all.
