The Tar Heel State: A New History of North Carolina

Good Historical Read
Most of the book was a good historical read, but the author relied too much on statistical numbers that made the ending and some parts of the seam dry and monotone. The make-up of any state is more than the numbers. The statistics don’t really matter as much as facts. There are some good facts and information in first toe-thirds of the book.

Get the first edition if you can
This is an update of The Tar Heel State: A History of North Carolina, originally published in 2005. Buy that edition used, if you can, unless your idea of a good second edition is some revisions to make the text more politically correct and a really dull chapter on the last 15 years of politics and economic growth in the state. I kept the first edition and sent this one back.
